Default 'Nother newbie question, is there a fast way to set up drums?

I'm pretty new at the midi/electronic composition part of music (probably apparent.) I'd like to have Reaper be a good way for me to catch ideas without a lot of setup.

A friend gave me a bunch of drum sample noises. Is there a way to set up a few favorites in some sort of sampler preset/template so I don't have to mess around with a sampler plugin while my ideas slip away?

Thanks for your help!

PS I have an Akai MPK mini with 8 pads. My ultimate would be to have a plugin mapped to those pads so that I could just open Reaper, add that VST to the track, and have the samples all mapped out so I can demo the beat right away.

Check ReaDrums by Jamester out: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.p...light=readrums
If you have problems with it, we can explain in detail, how it's set up.

yep, try 8 instances of reasamplomatic5000 on a track. drag in your samples and define the note/velocity range based on the akai midi output. save it as a track template once you got it all working and then you can just drag in new samples when you want. i haven't tried the one above, probably a simpler solution.

Alternatively you could get Sennheiser DrumMicA for free, which is based on Native Instruments Kontakt.

So REaDrums worked great. I will try to figure out how to make that a template and I will shout if I run into problems. You guys are awesome for helping me out, thanks!

Will try the other links soon.
