Guitar VSTi in MIDI Editor

In the midi editor there are velocity values for both the strum triggers and the notes you've put down for the chords, do the second ones have any effect on the velocity of the notes that have been strummed or is it just that it registers how hard you pressed the silent keys? Thanks

Reaper itself does not distinguish between the notes and the strum triggers. The guitar VSTi may do something special depending on the velocity of the triggers (but I doubt it).

Can you let us know which VSTi?

As DarkStar said, it will depend on the Guitar VST.

But this should be pretty easy for you to test for yourself. Create chord notes with high velocity, and strum notes with high velocity. Play it, and then see if it sounds different when you change the strum notes to a low velocity. Or when you change the chord notes to a low velocity. Or when you change both types of notes to a low velocity.
