Default Pre-Listening to Samples

Hello everyone,

I've tried really hard, but I can't find a solution to this: I'd like to use Virtuadrum in Reaper, but when I'm about to load samples into the slots, I can't listen to them in the selection menue. I have to load them into Virtuadrum, play them, and when I don't like them, repeat the whole process. I know, that I can pre-listen to samples in the Media Bay, but that doesn't help much, when I want to use them in VST-samplers.
So I have the following questions:

1. Is there any way, that I can prelisten to samples in the selection menue?
2. Is this problem due to virtuadrum or does this also account for other samplers like Kontakt, Battery and so on?

Thanks a lot for your help in advance
Steffen

I think that's a problem with the VSTi not with REAPER.

Hello stevcos and welcome to these forums. You'll find many helpful people here and a lot of useful information.

Many plugin instruments do not have the ability to pre-listen to samples before loading them.

Drag and drop works perfectly with ReaSamplOmatic 5000, but not with Virtuadrum. So you say in other VSTs there is a possibility to listen to samples in the selection menue? Can you recommend any drumsampler that has this option?

addictive drums can but you can't import any sample you want. I don't use many samplers and can't think of any that let you preview without loading, however that's not a feature I've looked for personally.

Have you tried using Media Explorer and pointing it to the location of those samples?

I know this thread is old, but since this is the first link that pops up in Google and since no answer has been given here, I'll show how to pre-listen to samples in Reaper's sampler, the ReaSamplOmatic500.

The trick is to load all samples you want to check out in the sampler : click on "list" on the ReaSamplOmatic page and load all the kicks you want to listen, for example. There, you can click on them individually and load the one you want into the sampler. Afterwards, you'll just have to rename the FX instance on the upper left if you want.
