MIDI controller not working for FX parameter control

Hello all! I'm new to the forum but have found it incredibly useful for the past two years of me having reaper. I have been following and reading countless of posts and tutorials on this topic but I can't seem to get it to respond. It reads the midi signal on the "learn" window but doesn't isn't activated when the foot controller is engaged. Quite puzzled and would love your help.

Some things you should know:
- Running the latest version of reaper and Windows 10
- The controller I'm using is the MeloAudio Midi Commander
- I have already set it to "Enabled+Control" on midi preferences
- I'm able to use the controller with VSTs that have automation prompts such as Helix native and BIAS.

You can do some project specific setup for parameter linkage, but...

Control Surface devices should be discussed in the Control Surface subforum.

I suppose for what you want to do you will want to install an appropriate Control Surface Reaper extension.
