Stop the playback, make the changes and start the play again. I know it is not ideal, which is why I punted this one off my vst list in the first place. I try to avoid stuff that is not built to standard, but for specific situations I like this plugin and am okay with "careful usage". My recent need was doing a cover of "Fat Bottom Girls", which turned out great by the way. I did four part harmony and used foldering to apply the first effect chain. Then I routed the output of that to a new track and applied it again with different panning. This thing gave me that big fat Queen choir sound. It definately can cause crashes in Reaper, so use it very carefully.

Yeah, it was kind of a pisser, as it seems to be a really nice plug. However, I'll still mess around with it ...keeping in mind your workarounds.

Thanks!

I haven't gotten around to checking out this thread until "now"...

So what I want to know is,

out of all of these, which stays 64 bit? Do any? In other words, the JS effects I know wouldn't require a conversion - but everything else will...

(going to investigate TerryT's Reaper plugs)

The French appear to have their own JS plugins line!

Free noise reduction plugs and a very useful pan delay among the goodies... Page is in French but the whole pack is such a small download (108 kb) you could easily try them all out.

I LOVE what a subtle use of pan delay can do to a track or as a mastering effect to a whole project.

Default Camel Crusher

If anyone has posted this please delete... i did a search a few times and could not find anything on it....

http://www.camelaudio.com/camelcrusher.php

CamelCrusher is a free versatile 'colouring' multi-effect plugin. It offers two characteristically different distortion sounds which can be blended together to create a wide variety of tones and textures. Great for guitars, drums and plenty more!

There's also a warm, smooth analogue-style low-pass filter, with buckets of resonance. Assign a MIDI controller and start tweaking!

Finally, let's not forget the easiest-to-use compressor you'll find anywhere. It can 'phatten' up your sound as quickly as you can turn up the 'Amount' knob! Find out more in the manual

Best of all, CamelCrusher is available free of charge!
Camel Audio CamelCrusher is a freeware vst plugin multi effect, featuring distortion and compressor. It is one of many vst plugins available from Camel Audio
Feature highlights

# Two different distortion types.
# Warm, analogue-modelled resonant low-pass filter.
# High quality, easy-to-use compressor, with 'Phat' mode.
# Powerful 'MIDI Learn' function.
# A collection of useful Preset patches to get you started.
# Randomize for instant inspiration

Default macho plugin (direct X)

Check out:

http://www.delaydots.com/xfreeware.html

Download PitchWorks DX. This has got to be one of the best resampling shifters out there. My favorite app...try this...

Play a bass line with normal 6 string guitar in a multitrack session (usually allowing more control over bends, speed and the like).

Drop the track an octave, adjust EQ and blend in. Nice??

Though not exactly a free plugin, there are some great free impulses at Noisevault which work really well in Reaverb.

Link...

http://noisevault.com/nv/index.php?o...tory&Itemid=29

I recommend the Kurzweil KSP8 and the Lexicon 960 for truly stunning reverbs.

Cheers

Default Very realistic sax

There's a very realistic sax VSTi at http://www.vstsax.com/ - you have to download the sound banks and the vsti itself, and check the readme for installation instructions.

My friend and I have collected several good plugins (instruments and effects) and hosted them on a server for our band website. Feel free to take a look here:

www.emptyseatsband.com/download.html

Many of the plugins listed in this thread are collected there, and I've got more on my PC that I haven't uploaded. Enjoy!

Default Need some installation help

Sorry for posting this twice but I think I put it in the wrong area the first time...anyway...WOw!! I found some real great stuff on this thread. My question is how do I get them into Reaper so I can actually use em. I've tried to download several things into my program, the reaper logo comes up like it's ready to install but then I get an error message and won't accept the file. I've tried unzipping the files and copying them into the insert area but still no luck. Is there just a simple setting I need to change in reaper to accept these zip file downloads. Thanks

Default Great topic!

Most of my favourites are already mentioned, but this is a long thread, so I don't remember which ones. I will only list the ones I love the most. All of these can be found easy, just put the name and "vst" or "vsti" in google.

And guys, don't forget to try Soundfonts. "Sfz vst" will play them, and the unpackers and fonts are easily downloadable at
http://www.soundfonts.it/
There are some mean VST's and VSTi's available also.

VST:

Electri-Q Posihfopit, incredibly versatile and good sounding EQ.
IQ4, mind-blowing "dynamic eq", http://www.platinumears.com/IQ4gui.zip
Digitalphishphones Dominion, attack booster / dynamic processor.
MyMag, tape saturation.
CamelCrusher, 2 overdrives, lp-filter + compressor. All of them sound extraordinary.
Tls Saturated Driver, a great master driver/compressor/limiter.
Tls Pocket Limiter, the best master limiter. L2 sucks compared to this! ;o)
Voxengo Boogex, guitar amp sim that works with impulses.
Gsnap, free autotune.
Voxengo SPAN, spectrum analyzer.
Effectizer, all fx needed for keyboards like the Rhodes and organ.

VSTi:

Prova, East-European grand piano. Makes me cry.
MrRay, the best Rhodes ever.
Aube, beautiful soft e-piano.
Plugsound Free, a great jazz drumset, some keyboards, a guitar...
Organized Trio, hammond.
Siecles, very frankencrazyish church organ.

And everything (free) from these sites:

The Prova piano I hadn't tried before - well worth downloading though not easy to play other than loud. Very closely sampled and therefore quite handy for testing reverbs with.

Yes, the notes sometimes end very unnaturally. Takes a while to learn to be careful with that. But a small ambience helps with that also. And PSP Pianoverb ofcourse.

Anyhow. Has anyone seen a free Noise Removal plugin? There are tons of gates, and the JS Noise Filtre and Noise Attenuator that helps a bit, but they are still very different than for example Voxengo Redunoise that is so far my favourite of the commercial ones. Been googling for that several times during the last 6 months but can't find anything.

Proper noise reduction isn't something that is likely to be found free. Off the top of my head, Acoustica 4 (and its stable mates) might be about the cheapest editor with NR you're likely to find.

A good hint, thanks. However, for a $100 VST, the Voxengo Redunoise is just marvellous. I got better results with Redunoise than I did with Waves X-Noise.

I don't think I'm ready to do the "noiselessing" in another software. Even if I use it very rarely, I guess I have to get ready to come up with the $100 for the Redunoise.

It's funny though, all other tools, VST's and VSTi's are easily available free. I guess noise reduction is a lot more complicated.

Nebula2 free works fine with Reaper but after the substantial downloads and installation routines, I'm a bit underwhelmed with it.

I agree Art. Pipe and I were beta testers some time ago, and both were underwhelmed. I just got it again (it WAS a major pain to get), and while a couple of the eqs are pretty nice sounding, it's still very underwhelming. The interface is a mess, too.

A good idea when you cant acces to a given page from your location can be use any of that new "Virtual Web OS", and navigate from inside them. If the Web Os runs, any page will run inside it.
I like this one called "EyeOs"

Hi, great thread. I started off on n-Track then jumped across to Reaper. Anyway, I need an easy to use beat box drum machine, all I want is something with two button, one for tempo and on for type of rythm , okay maybe not that basic but you know what I mean. I'm a guitar guy for goodness sake, too many button confuse me !

hey Polar, and welcome to Reaper!

I'm an old N user too (emphasis on OLD ). Actually, you'll find quite a few of us here.

I use FL for drums, but that's pretty involved. Have you had a look at N's drums? It should load inside Reaper just fine.

Yes, after thinking about how good "n" drums were i realised I had a copy on my work pc, I have it here now but can't see the plugin when its in my "plugin" dir ?

Can't get over how good this software is, using NI plugins at the moment to make my terrible guitar playing sound pro ( ish)

Actually recording adds a whole new dimension though !

hmmmm.. yeah, you're right. N drums don't show up for me either, and i'm not sure why. It's a .dll file, and it's in with all my other VSTs.

Is it possible that some .dll's won't work outside their main host?

Can't speak to N-Tracks, specifically, but some developers (Reaper's included) make it so that their plugins only work in their DAW.

Seems plausible that N-Track may follow suit.

That seems to be the case here, fluffy. shame too... N's drums are pretty decent.

N's DX plugs work in Reaper, but i'm slowly moving away from them. The more i work with Reaper's native plugs, the more i like them.
