Default Is Anyone Using Big Bang Universal Drums?

Hi,
Just discovered Big Bang Universal Drums, by Sonivox, and I am wondering if anyone here is using it with Reaper.

If so, I would be very interested in hearing about your experience of BBUD, especially in comparison to the other virtual drums out there (EZ Drummer, BFD, Drummic'a and so on).

I thought that the sounds in the video demos for BBUD were great, but maybe that is not the case.

Many thanks.

I bought it on one of their almost-free sales a while back.
It takes forever to load and frankly is a bit of a one trick pony.
I got the impression it was primarily aimed at the movie market.
Certainly not in the same league as EZD2, SD3, AD2, etc., for regular muso use.

Hi ivansc,
Wow - that was a swift reply. Many thanks.

I just have a few follow-up questions.

Once it has loaded, how is Big Bang Universal Drums to use?

What made you think that it was aimed at the movie market?

What other aspects of BBUD mean that it is not in the same league as EZD, and the other usual suspects (apart from being a one-trick pony)?

And what is the one trick that it does well?

The one trick is doing bombastic, over-blown drum sounds which to my untutored ear always seem a bit to cinematic, but there again I like to start with pretty dry sounds and season to taste. Once its loaded it works OK but I just never bonded with it.
In dfairness I have been using a LOT of TYoontrack stuff for many years, plus Steven Slate Drums 3.5 and 4 & several other leading drum romplers. Big Bang just didnt float my boat for a number of reasons, but go ahead and try it. Dont know if I could sell you mine dirt cheap, but would be happy to do so if it is permitted. I never use it now.

Thanks ivansc.

In terms of your offer, I think that I am going to investigate Drummic'a a little more before I make a decision.

I had wanted to use that a few years ago, but felt overwhelmed by it (once I had figured out how to download it).

I will get back to you if I decide to go with Big Band Universal Drums.

Drummic`a any day. I have it and it works great.

Especially for the price!

One caveat though - I do most of my drum parts by playing them in via my Roalnd TD8 & then tidying up my crap drumming after in the MIDI editor. Don`t really use the supplied MIDI files much.

I'm done with Sonivox.

I had a few of their plugins I really liked including a double bass one.

I had to move to a new machine and the copy protection no longer worked (wouldn't take me to the authorisation server as it no longer existed). Since the product has been discontinued I couldn't even download a new version. Their tech support were totally unhelpful.

So feel free to buy their stuff but be warned - you're only renting it until such a time as they decide they can't be bothered to support it any more. I'm not buying anything else off them.

It's been awhile, so I'd have to Google it, but BBD has a nasty bug you will need to deal with. Search for it.

I do remember that Win10 is NOT supported.

I have uninstalled the couple of Sonivox plugins that I bought, so can't test.

While no one expects the Spanish Inquisition, do expect a BBD crash fest.

Hi ivansc, JeffM, and TheMaartian,
Many thanks for your replies.

You have all been very helpful.

Given what you have each said, I will steer well clear of Sonivox products, including BBD.

And yes, you are right, TheMaartian, nobody expects The Spanish Inquisition, for fear of letting themselves in for an argument (the full half hour).

Thanks again.
