Default rendering technique question

hey gurus. I'm a newb at Reaper and I use it for recording live concerts of a community concert band (typically a stereo pair and one or two spot mics as needed.) For safety's sake I typically run the recording for the whole hour-long concert in one track per microphone, then go back afterward to add Reverbate to a new track using sends from the stereo pair.

I think I'm doing this right, but check me on this: I'm using envelopes to automate fade-in, fade-out and level control for the tracks, then rendering each piece as a selection (including fade-in and fade-out.) This works for me, but I'm wondering if there's a better (more efficient ?) way given the 10-12 pieces per concert.

Thoughts?

You could make a region for each piece and then render via the render matrix.

You could render it as one long piece (without the envelopes), drop that new file into a new project, then go through and split that item using item fades in place of the envelopes. If it gets quiet enough between pieces, you could use the auto-split action with appropriate settings to automate that process, too.
