double click between markers stops creating region
I am posting to ask for help please.
double clicking between markers creates a region.
I use this feature alot.
but now, very often, after I'm working on a project for a while, it stops working.
so, I finally close the project, re-open it, and it works again.
I have searched alot, and tried to solve this myself.
I cannot figure it out.
would someone please help me with this?
it is very frustrating.

I have never had that. Double clicking between markers creates a time selection, but you'd have to create a region from that as a separate action. If you changed things somehow, idk.
I have had some strange glitches in the recent past. Like I ended up one night where the mouse cursor turned into a pencil that wouldn't go away so that I pretty much couldn't do anything. Restarting Reaper cleared it up, and it hasn't happened since, and I don't even really know what I was doing when it started, so...

thank you very much for replying ashcat_lt.
yes, double clicking creates a time selection, not a region.
any other thoughts, anybody?
it is ridiculous to have to keep closing projects to get it working again.
its a basic need.
so I gotta get it fixed, somehow.

finally figured this out.
it happened again.
here's what it is:
I was listening to playback of recording.
I pressed Pause.
with it Paused, the double click create a time selection between markers does not work.
I'm posting this to help anyone else, if they ever have this problem.

it is still not clear to me what you want...
do you want to create a time selection or a region?
me... I generally create a time selection and then a region from that
but use hot keys for it all

time selection.
I was in error to use the term "region".
mods feel free to either correct the title of the thread, or delete it.
and thank you for replying hopi.

I checked a ton of settings.
and compared with the settings on my desktop
(which works fine. I can change time selection anytime I want to).
and I could not find the reason this happens.
so, I clicked reset configuration to factory defaults in the Start menu.
still does the same thing.
if anybody has any ideas, please tell me.
not a big deal.
but it would be fun to figure it out.
the theme I use is Classic_4.x.
I tried changing to other available themes on my laptop.
default, default 3.0, default 4.0, default Commala 5 2016.
still the same.

You are aware that you have to doubleclick in the section above the arrange window (where the markers live) which I marked red in the screenshot?

yes, very aware.
I've probably done it a million times.
I have been using the double click between markers
to create a time selection for many many years.

And in Preferences/Mousemodifiers it looks like this?
https://imgur.com/a/g4L2FaK
or is it 'set loop points to region' and in the options menu
'Loop points linked to time selection' is unchecked?

So you have to check it and than it should work :-)
or you change the mouse modifiers in the context Ruler
default behaviour when doubleclick from
'Set loop points to region' to
'Set time selection to region'
(exactly as in the screenshot I posted above)
and don't forget to hit apply than..

yes.
all the time.
including when stopped, playing and paused.
edit: I just checked this out on my other laptop.
it works normal.
so, the problem only happens on my main recording laptop.
on the desktop and the other laptop, no problem.
things that make you go hmmmm.

Last option is to make a portable install and see if it works there
If it does there is maybe something corrupted with your Reaper.ini file..?

thank you very much.
I just did a portable install (first time I ever did it).
the problem is fixed.
would you please tell me what you think I should do now?
should I delete the portable install?
and uninstall Reaper?
and then download Reaper and reinstall it?

Now things getting complicated because I'am on a mac.
On mac Reaper makes one folder called 'REAPER' whith all settings and stuff (looks like https://imgur.com/a/QSVZStb).
I assume there is a similar folder on windows. First move that folder to another place, otherwise you may loose all your settings (shortcuts, toolbars etc.). You can export all your settings (see other picture below), but (I would) keep that folder as a backup :
https://imgur.com/a/y735zvP
Try first to only trash your REAPER.ini file, maybe this will do the trick, if not trash the whole REAPER folder (you have to findout yourself, where it lives or how it is organized on windows)
If everything works as it should be, you can reimport your settings (same window as export).
The portable install can be deleted if you don't need it..

ah ok.
thank you very much.
I have found my REAPER.ini file.
I would like to try trashing just that file.
if I do that, how do I replace it?
do I download Reaper again, and then somehow find it in the download?
hmmmmmmmm
I downloaded Reaper again. and I do not see how to get to the REAPER.ini file.

AFAIK the REAPER.ini file will (automatically) be (re)written when you start Reaper, so if you trash yours there should be a new one after running Reaper..

the problem is back.
so I uninstalled Reaper (from the Start menu).
now I rebooted.
next I downloaded and reinstalled it.
the problem is still there.
next I uninstalled Reaper from the Control Panel > Programs and Features page.
and rebooted.
next I downloaded and reinstalled Reaper again.
the problem is still there.
so I uninstalled again.
this time, I shut off my interface. and stopped Reaper in Task Manager.
and deleted the Reaper Folder from App Data > Roaming.
reinstalled.
started from scratch.
worked fine on new project.
same problem on recent project.
no clue as to why.

Sorry to hear- been too early pleased..
Maybe it's good to start another thread, seems like OS (Windows) specific problems and I can't help here..
Instead of Deinstalling/ Reinstalling Reaper, didn't it work just to trash the REAPER.ini file?
And on your other computers everything is fine? Than it's hard to track down the problem, I think..
Good luck!

and yes my other computers run fine.
maybe I will start another thread.
thank you again for your help.
