Default [Solved]Big problem with Reaper under Linux Mint

Hello,

Big problem today with Reaper Linux 6.15 under Linux mint 20.
Reaper seems to work strangely.

For example, in a file that has already been worked on, I notice time shifts in the audio tracks. I then correct these offsets, save the file again ... but if I reload it, the offset remains.
Another example, the master track level automatically resets to 0 when I load the file ... and a lot of other strange things.

In fact, it's a big mess :/

To compare, I loaded the same file in the Windows version of Reaper (with Wine), and there everything is correct!
So it looks like my files are intact.

What could possibly be going on? I do not understand… any idea?

It's most likely not a problem with Mint or Reaper. You're describing something I've never seen in any of my projects and I have used the latest Mint in at least a couple different flavours.

Describe everything about the project including what file format you are using to record to. For instance if you are using a compressed file format such as MP3 instead of WAV. That could be the problem right there. Currently you have provided no information for me to make any further guesses. I'm not even really sure what you're talking about.

Hello,

First of all, thanks for the reply. The problem does seem quite complicated and strange to me.

I haven't checked all of my Reaper files, but it looks like most of them are affected and I'm only using the .wav format.

To demonstrate the problem, I therefore created a new file in which I imported a .wav on track 1.
I made this .wav start at the start of bar 2. (see bug01.png)
I then saved this file and then reloaded it immediately. (see bug02.png)
In this file, however so simple, I notice two changes:
- the master slider has changed its appearance: the effects rack has disappeared above (only the slider remains).
- the track 1 item no longer starts at the start of bar 2 but slightly before.

But other problems can appear in other files.
For example:
- the Master slider is at zero,
- the volume of certain items is at zero,
... etc ...
I also tried to downgrade to a previous version of Reaper (6.14) but that doesn't change anything.

On the other hand, if I load the file in the Windows version of Reaper (with WINE), everything is in order (see bug03.png): the item which was shifted in track 1 returns to its normal position at the start of the measure 2!

What a strange thing ...

I see "Save as with move/copy/trim option" on screen in the first image.

Could that have something to do with it?

Hi elode,
Please, post that test project so we can try it.

It could have something to do with "locale" (regional settings or how it is called) as different characters "." versus "," are used as decimal separators and Reaper then interprets it wrong when loading saved project maybe. (If fader is at decimal value, then it would be set to -inf (I think that -inf is what are you describing as "fader ius at zero")...

I do not know. This message appears because I had just saved the file by copying the audio files to a new directory (last action).

Thanks for the reply

I downloaded the file and tried it open in Windows Reaper (Win7, 32-bit) and in PuppyLinux Bionic which I use for some testing. In both cases the file is opened correctly. I also tried to substitute "," as decimals in the file, but even then the projects was loaded OK and unfortunately cannot replicate wrong behavior of yours.

So, I attached two files that are editions of your original one.
1) "essaiBug-cleanup-test-1.RPP" has removed extension part (DRIVEN_BY_MOSS and XENAKIOSCOMMANDS)
2) "essaiBug-cleanup-test-2.RPP" has again removed that extension part but also the "UNDO_FTS 1605524285" line.

Please, try to load/open both these test files in MintLinux and write back result.

Note: In my PuppyLinux I have locale set as "en_US.UTF-8" for all entries (thanks biopsin for linux command

Hello @Akademie,
I tried your files (rppessaiBug....rpp) and it didn't change anything.

However, I saw that in your first file you removed "DRIVEN_BY_MOSS".
I then remembered that I installed the DRIVEN_BY_MOSS extension a few days ago. (Options>Preferences>Control/OSC/web). So to try, I removed it.
And there, everything is back to normal! I don't understand why, but it worked
Maybe DRIVEN_BY_Moss is a bit buggy? This is a tool which allows to use several hardware controllers with Cockos Reaper.

Anyway, thanks for your help I was really lost.

Wow, great you got it resolved elode.

(Note: I have read here on forums few times about that extension doing some bad things like crashing the Reaper or whole OS system, so that's why I tried to get rid of it in your project file by removing it there. But as it seems it is not enough and it causes problems when just active in Reaper - so good to know).

Anyway, you are back to normal and that matters
