Default Reaper Crashing Constantly

Hi there,

I started using Reaper for the first time and it keeps crashing randomly.. I seem to be doing different things whenever it crashes so I can't figure out what's wrong.
I grabbed the error logs from Windows Event Viewer and I've posted the results below.
I've included error logs for two separate crashes.
If anyone knows what's going on I'd really appreciate some help.
Thanks in advanced!

Edit: To add, no VST's are loaded in the project. I'm building an orchestral template and currently all tracks are empty.

I'm using a PreSonus Studio 2/6 USB 3.0 Audio Interface.
In audio hardware settings in Reaper I have it set to ASIO. Is that correct?

My audio interface drivers are up to date.

Does Reaper not play well with plugins in general? Or only certain ones?

Reaper only ever crashes in either of these two cases (for me, and I've used it for over a decade, daily):

1. A dodgy audio card / bad connection with your audio hardware
2. Flaky plugins or conflicting versions of plugins

You can test no. 2 by starting up a clean session and then watch if it crashes, and then insert your favorite plugin, one by one, to see which is the culprit.

Thanks for the tip.
BTW, these crashes are happening with zero VSTs loaded.. I'm currently building an orchestral template and am just creating a bunch of empty tracks and busses etc. Could faulty plugins still be causing the crashing in this case?

Bad plugins are the top cause of Reaper crashes

Even if no plugins are being used in my current project?

That's an access violation, aka trying to access memory that it isn't allowed to access. The fault offset is where it crashed so the devs can look at that and tell what code was running when it crashed, until then...

Can you describe exactly what you are doing when it crashes? I'd start with an empty project and repro if possible. If there is nothing third-party loaded/used (including controllers etc.) this could be some rare bug but only if there is nothing third party involved.

You can rule out the audio driver by setting the audio driver to the "dummy" driver and trying to repro.

Maybe give 5.978 a try?

Also: any control surfaces enabled?

I see it recognizes my Akai MPK61 in controller settings, but it is disabled and I haven't enabled it yet.
