Echolot theme FTC-mod
Hey folks,
this is my mod of the incredible Echolot theme by mawi.
It is based on Echolot v1.0 (the first version that mawi published), but I've kept pace and added many changes I liked from later versions.
Key differences:
- Heavy use of theme adjuster options (reducing number of layouts)
- Option to show TCP fx-list at minimum height (enabled by default)
- Reworked folder icons/logic
- Buttons for input fx and recording mode on TCP (input fx is left of recording input)
- Rework of what is shown in TCP at various heights
- Adjusted MIDI editor note color scheme
- Lots of other small visual tweaks
Hope you enjoy!
If you do so and want to make a donation, please do NOT donate to me.
Consider supporting mawi for his hard work on this.

My man, FeedTheCat!
Thank you for face-lifting this incredible theme!
Been using Echolot since the time it came out.
Now your mod will find a good use.
If I spot anything wrong (I know it is mostly a matter of different taste), will let you know.
Have to admit, I never bothered to mingle with WALTER layout adjuster.
But your mod gives us a good opportunity to go crazy on the sliders.

Beautiful theme guys! Well done! Having a lot of shrink / zoom steps on the mixer tracks .... a lot of stuff! Really nice and zero-lag. Thanks 1000

Nice adaptation, and great to see this theme being further developed.
I sort of wish that the Mute and Solo color coding were in the international mixing desk colors (e.g. mute=red, solo=yellow), but that's a detail (and not specific to your fork).

Great update!
It now looks more and more attractive!
I use it from the beginning!
It would be great if we can have the option to make ''mixer master'' smaller while it is appeared in docker. It is too big and it takes up a lot of screen space.
Instead of being two vertical separated tracks let it be one.VU meter its very big.I think that the first released was one track. The half was fx/sends and the other half vu/master volume fader, pan etc.
That would be a very good future update but once again great job!

Thanks for the theme, looks great.
Found a bug: when you choose to show fx GUI on MCP with the Expanded layout, the GUI gets messed up when you select other tracks.

Hi,
I like the scroll bars on the FX list, and would like to incorporate something similar in the Theme I use.
Do you have some idea what code and or image resources are applicable to the scroll bars displayed at the FX list in your theme?
Thank you!

I think it's only colors in the theme tweaker, look for "List scrollbar".

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I have already tweaked my 2 List Scrollbar entries in the Theme/Development Tweaker, but they do not look like yours.
Yours seem to have a space between the scroll bar and the FX List name panels. Mine are smashed against the FX list name panels.
It also looks crisp and clean on the dark background.
Anyways, your theme looks real good. I was just hoping I might learn how to emulate that detail.
Thank you!

Oh ok, I see what you mean now. I actually didn't make much of this theme, you could ask mawi to find out for sure. My guess is that it's the blank space he left in files like mcp_fxlist_norm that do the trick.
Btw, hope you end up publishing that theme of yours, even it's just TCP. Looks gorgeous!

Hi,
First, let me thank you for being gracious when I took your thread off topic.
Second, thank you for the nice words about the theme I have been working on/with.
Third, thank you for the suggestion to look at the relationship between the image and the pink line.
This worked by increasing the gap at the bottom right corner of two png files, so now the scroll bar has a distinct appearance.
I am working on the tcp FX list rather than the mcp list. I used the "ugly-color" method to discover which image resources were applicable:
; The image file for the name panel with FX inserted is: mcp_fxlist_norm.png
; The image file for the empty name panel is: tcp_fxparm_empty.png
Thank you!

Howdy Folks,
Just uploaded an update to the stash.
Also a new libwell-colortheme for Linux users.
I've been tweaking small things here and there for a while, so I can't really list what has changed.
Try it out I guess

Great theme!
It seems like when I first tried it, it didn't have a narrow MCP layout. I don't know when that changed, but it has one now.
Also, I *really* appreciate the absence of the TCP button to change to a folder, to last in folder... I always end up clicking it by mistake.
Is a "Big Meter" layout for the TCP on your roadmap? That would be awesome for me.
It's still a great theme as it is. Many thanks!!!

The folder button is there, but it's hidden if you don't hover over it.

Not exactly sure what you mean with big meter, but there's this option in the theme adjuster:

In this theme: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=142460 there is a TCP layout called "Classic Big Meter". Basically, the meter is horizontal and takes up the whole TCP (for 1 track). There isn't a picture of the Big Meter layout in the forum, you have to install it (it's free).
It's a great layout for multi timbral/multi track instruments like Yoshimi and LinuxSampler (and probably Kontact, but I only use native Linux plugins ), and some multi output drum plugins.
For LinuxSampler, if I have 8 LS parts, I'll have the LS plugin in a track at the top, and have 8 MIDI tracks that send to LS, and 8 output tracks that receive from LS. Those output tracks contain the FX.
The thing is, it's great to be able to see all of the LS outputs in the LS track. If I don't get sound out of a track, I can see at a glance if LS is outputting sound. I really don't need mute, solo, volume or pan, just the metering.
</verbose answer>
Thanks again!

I made a horizontal meter layout that worked in a Blankfiles theme, entirely possibe something similar can be done for Echolot.

Thanks, @rothchild.
There are several themes that feature a full meter layout, including WT_Imperial. I copied the full meter layout and pasted it into rt.config in the Echolot_FTC folder, zipped it all back together... and it doesn't work.
Reaper recognizes it as a theme, but when I select it I get the default 6 theme.
Edit: same thing when I pasted the rothchild horizontal meter code...
Still lovin Echolot_FTC! Thanks mawi & FTC!

PMan did you also create a folder for the images (png files) associated with the new layout? I've had that problem too a few years ago when I was first experimenting with theme tweaks. If the layout in the config file doesn't know where to look for images it may be pulling from the default theme.

Yeah I had a go too and got a similar result, I'll have another go with ermwhy's suggestion this evening - I've not done any theming for ages, so much stuff to forget if you're not a regular!

Hi FeedTheCat,
I have been using this theme with macOS system scaling set to 2x, REAPER UI element scaling set to 0.85x for a while and everything works nicely.
After I tried your latest update (2023.2.22) on Stash, I found that now TCP elements can't be displayed properly when tracks zoomed to minimal height.
(Previous Ver.)
(Latest Ver.)
Can you shed some light on this?
Also, I found that MCP clipping indicator on Docked layout is a bit hard to read. How can I make it the same as Default layout?

Hmm, I guess it has to do with fractional scaling. So e.g. the element is supposed to show at 24px height, but due to scaling the height is then reported as 23.5 or something. Don't really think this is something that themers should be worried about, so hopefully the devs address it.
The color of the clipping indicator can only be changed through the WALTER rtconfig file. I'll give it a better color in the next update, but can't say when that will be.

Thanks for the info, FeedTheCat!
Could you also share where and what to change in rtconfig? Since I have to use the old version due to TCP height issue, I'll try to edit my rtconfig file manually.

I just uploaded a new version that should fix the clipping indicator color.
I'm not sure whether it's the same in the old version you have, but in the newer version I did so by commenting out line 362 like this:
Code:
;set mcp.meter.readout.color h>223 [152 152 152]
If my theory about the fractional scaling issue is correct, then maybe changing line 15 to
Code:
tcp_heights 5 27 51 100
will help show the buttons when minimized. This will change the minimum track height from 26 to 27px. But I just noticed that the track number is smaller as well so maybe something else is at play here...
Could you send me the old version you have? Then I could try to investigate what changed

It's not at line 362 in the old version. By comapring two rtconfig files, I think it should be at line 333 and the same code is already there, but without the ";" in front. Adding ";" in front didn't do it for me.
I should also mention that I have my meter_strip_v.png and MCP2's mcp_volbg.png modified. Not sure if it affects clipping indicator.

Changing line 15 in the latest version didn't fix TCP issue, unfortunately.

If you're talking about the bigger track numbers in my old version pic, that's because I adjusted a bunch of font sizes in the theme tweaker.
Here's the old version. (original one without my mod)

Hmm, that's weird. It does the trick for me, even in the old version. Maybe you need to restart reaper? The meters don't seem to always update instantly here.
I just uploaded a new version that should now also show track icons at minimum height with 0.85% scaling.

I just tried it and the TCP issue got fixed now! I'll keep using the new version.
Thank you so much, FeedTheCat!
One more little thing. I just noticed that while meter readout when clipping is clearer now, readout when it's not clipping becomes harder to see this time, compared to old version.
I tried to figure it out myself by comparing codes related to meter readout in two files but couldn't find anything useful.

Ah yeah, that's probably what I had tried changing and messed up the lit readout color in the process. New version is online with the slightly brighter color
