I'm thinking about a new 7700K vs 1700X too.

I think I will spend a little bit more on internal storage and a hopefully quieter fan upfront then your setup.

Sadly there are still not many real world AMD vs. Intel examples out there.

That's a great setup for an audio computer. You are missing a video card though, unless you plan on using on-board. (Which is probably fine for one monitor.)

My only possible question would be whether you want to look for a motherboard with Thunderbolt to more 'future-proof' it, but that's more down to personal preference.

Great selection of components otherwise!

With Reaper, you can run any kind of hardware and it'll be sufficient. I'm exaggerating a little obviously, but I seriously doubt there are new PC parts available where Reaper won't run great.

Well, the only thing I'd say is, why are you getting a full ATX motherboard and case? What are the 2 PCI slots for? They aren't native PCI slots anyway, and so aren't much good for use with PCI audio interfaces.

Offtopic, but can you elaborate on this?

Well, why get a full sized motherboard, and the bigger case it requires if it is going to be mostly empty, and the extra slots on the motherboard left empty.

If the reason to get the larger motherboard is for the two PCI slots it has because you have old PCI audio interfaces, then you need to be aware that they likely won't perform well at low latency with small asio buffers because the PCI slots are not directly connected to the chipset, which no longer has native PCI support. Instead they use a PCIE to PCI bridge chip. Some of them work OK, but many don't, and even a good one is unlikely to perform as well as an older chipset with native PCI support.
