For the newbie guide, you might want to consider referenceing all the quality themes which emulate other widely used DAWs' interfaces. Albert's PT theme and the Cubasey theme (can't remember the autor right now) at least should be mentioned IMO.
Good luck with the effort. I for one think that a guide like this is a very good idea, in addition to the official manual, to get impatient potential users accustomed to the vast customization possibilities in Reaper.
Oh, and speaking of the most popular themes, just scroll back the pages of the theme forum and look at the view count of threads. =) WT might not be that far off about the popularity of his theme(s).

I've been using ReaBorn 2 pretty much exclusively for a year now. Before that I used Rado Vox for a couple of years.

I can't seem to use a theme for more than 1 song.
My favorite is the ability to switch themes between instruments %-))
Keep on themeeeeming!

Omg, nobody's recommended Apollo 4 For All?! Well, that one's mine.
And just to be clear, I'm referring to witti's mod of lampshade's original theme. His rocks!

Graymatter_dark_beta3 - it's the bees knees. Good for people without huge/dual monitors and colour scheme's super easy for those long waveform staring sessions.

Have been a long time user of GrayMatter. The color scheme is indeed easy on the eyes.

I'm with REABORN 2 going on a couple of years now. I still look around but I haven't found anything I like better.

L2 BDS is my favourite (after 15 years of Cubase),
I made it a bit darker.
WT Dead Ringer Colonial 4000XL Pro is my second.
sometimes try others but not for long,
I don't get some themes that have no inserts and sends on the mixer.....maybe I'm overseeing something there.
And some themes distract me from making music, I want it to make me focus on the content.

I've used:
- Pro X Tools GOLD ED (waiting for the updated version)
- Reaborn2.1
- Default_Analog_v1.8
Default_Analog has outlasted them all. Love this theme. I've always had a fondness for Reaper's default theme, and this has the perfect tweaks for me.
