Default How do you select tracks using the mouse?

This might appear ridiculous to you but as a novice I cannot figure out how to select (more than one) track by clicking on it in the TCP or Mixer window.

I can do it using SWS Extensions and console as well as Track Manager but that is beside the point.

It seems that none of the modifier keys (command, shift, option) are doing anything when I click on tracks with the mouse.

I have searched all over the internet but am getting nowhere. Apparently this question is so basic that I could not even find it mentioned in the manual.

Very grateful for your help - this is not a joke.

Select first track - shift and select last track to select everything in between.

Or Ctrl click individual tracks for them to become selected

Thank you for your replies, Bobobo and trevlyns.

The problem is that I tried all of the above and it did not work.

However, I think I have found the cause of the problem:

I am using the Reaper machine via Screen Sharing and this seems to be causing Reaper to behave unexpectedly.

To double-check I have installed Reaper on my main machine and it works just like any other Mac OS (macOS) program (and like you have described above).

Screen Sharing seems to mess with modifiers in the arrangement window, too:

Command-dragging items to copy them does not work. There is definitely something funny going on.

Since I do not use Reaper for anything other than processing audio at the moment I will be ok for now but will need to investigate this further.

I just tried it here over screen sharing and everything works as expected. Shift/command/option all work as expected for selections. Marquee selection works. Control-click (what a mouse right-click is mapped to by default if you didn't know) works as expected. Right-click works too.

So... I wonder if your troubles are with Reaper mouse modifiers? Maybe you inadvertently changed a few?

Or are you using a tablet? Running a remote desktop app on an iPad will be a little different. You have to learn a couple moves for some modifiers.

Thank you so much for the trouble of testing yourself, serr. I am not sure what is going on at my end though. I have not re-mapped any modifiers (in system prefs or Reaper prefs) but I do use a Wacom tablet alongside a trackball.

There is no difference between the trackball and tablet behaviour. Other applications seem ok, too.
