Hehe not a match at all, I just put things here when Technogremlin had a pause from his thread and just continued is all. Besides, that's a thread for his favorites only, this is for what anybody finds to be good freeware (well effects only, but hey).

Well, the list is indeed biased towards my preferences, but those are based on actually testing stuff and doing shoot-outs between similar plugins (the reverb-testing I did was pretty a hefty task) to get somewhere close to 'the best' options. Everybody is free to post new finds there, and I'll take those into consideration for testing (unless they are obviously inferior to what's already on the list). I'm posting new stuff there myself regularly, while those finds also don't always end up in the list. The whole idea is of course to have a 'limited' list that people can get working with pretty quickly without the need to do all that testing and comparing themselves

Kinda... but its all done thru their end.
Plus after you get your license you can always unlike their page.
Matter of fact: I looked on their whole site and never saw anything relating to "limit one per person" or anything of that sort.
So, if you're a dummy like me, you could make a few "fake" facebook pages and get license's for as many as you like.
I actually did this lol.
But only for the chorus and the reverb as those seem to be the hardest fx to find in 64bit for free.

Another release from Variety of Sound aka Bootsie is always worth mentioning:

SlickHDR is a “Psychoaccoustic Dynamic Processor” which balances the perceived global vs. local micro dynamics of any incoming audio and:
- Creates a rich in contrast, detailed and clearly perceived image which translates way better across different listening environments.
- Provides a convenient workflow by simply adjusting three dynamic processors to show a roughly same load.
- Offers further and detailed control about overall tone and release time behavior.

i am very angry at the creator of venom tb-303 because of the crippleware he programmed into it to disallow people from operating it via midi.

also its not an effect plugin.

Minihost Modular Beta – Free Modular VST Host By Image Line

It's a standalone, but also works as a VST plugin and can load VSTs, both MIDI and audio (effects and synths).

Not so interesting for us Reaper users maybe since we can stack and drag plugins at will, but it has its creative uses in that you can use the piano roll to make it trigger sequences etc (one finger playing).

All Ugo plugins are now freeware:

M-theory is a hybrid synth that is built around the Karplus-Strong physical modeling technique, and uses samples, VA oscillators, and noise to drive the delay based oscillator, resulting in a very wide range of high quality synthetic and synth/acoustic hybrid modeled sounds.
Dualism is a plugin version of the dual phrase arpeggiators and 2X MIDI utilities found within M-theory, providing you with the ability to create complex arpeggios for any synth you wish.

Rez is a VSTi monosynth. From funky squishes, beastly basses, and screaming leads, to tight arpeggiations, swirling rhythms, atmospheres, bells, and interesting effects, you'll find it all here. Additionally, it comes with two skins - Yellow & Black, or Black & Yellow.

Disturbance: Disturbance is primarily intended for the glitching/mangling of drum loops but it can also be useful with melodic material, vocals, and pretty much anything else you want to get glitchy with. Disturbance is similar to a slicer, but a bit different. It works by chopping up a loop into 64 equal parts (no beat detection) then sequencing their playback, and each slice in Disturbance has its own loop point.

The Ironhead Suite: a collection of 15 plugins dedicated to morphable synthetic junkyard percussion. Included are Ironhead, a multi-part drum synth, Tunguska, a multi-effect designed for drums, and the Ironhead:Spawn series - 13 Ironhead instruments reimagined as tuned percussion synths.

Metallurgy is a multi-effect that is capable of providing sounds ranging from subtle filter tweaks to twisted and complex walls of sound that bear virtually no resemblance to the original audio. Metallurgy was designed with drums, bass, and synths in mind, but it works well with a wide variety of input material and is useful for many styles of music.

  • Prev/next switch for browsing through waveforms.
  • Matrix now with 11 slots.
  • Several new setup options.
  • Undo / redo functionality.
  • Filter Saturation like full Alpha.
  • Unison like Full Alpha.
(VST, AU & RTAS formats for Mac OS X and Windows)

This website seems to have every plugin mentioned in this thread.
It's even divided into "best free ___" categories for easy reference.
Plugins are announced there before anywhere else usually.

A +1 here. Always been a fan of the linplug sound and it's a very generous giveaway considering the functionality when compared to the payware version.

Thanks for the link, Art Evans.

*The FREE demo versions offered are pretty solid (i.e. not totally defeatured). But the full versions are available at very low cost. (Just adding this since we are in a "FREE plugins" thread.)

Various de la Mancha plugins now freeware: (imo compressors have quite nice character and comes with useful external sidechain)

GTO is a vintage style 'character' peak compressor, designed for raw power and lightning response:

GTX is similar to GTO but customised with a smoother RMS delivery and further refinement in the shape of a knee control:

QB3 is a vintage-style 3-band EQ with its own unique colouring:

ClipStar is a soft clipper effect plugin, designed to prevent peaks in a subtler way than hard clipping, increase loudness and add pleasing saturation:

There aren't any AFAIK, best free sampler for Mac is likely TX16Wx.

More cumbersome than the brilliant UI of Shortcircuit2, it is generally reliable and likely supported for a good while to come.

This is only free if you already own Reaktor... but I'm very impressed with it.

Multi effect unit for stutter/gate/reverse/grain/pitch/etc
Controlled by keyboard like The Finger or Artillery, but even better: It has step sequencers for each effect.
