bx_console n worth it?
Hi everyone.
I just got a voucher for Plugin Alliance products.
I'm mainly interested in a bx_console n. With the voucher, it's only 30$. Pretty cheap compared to the usual price.
Currently, I use Airwindows Console 6.
Anything I should know? (sound, CPU usage, latency, etc.)
Thanks for your input!

I believe it's zero latency. CPU usage is light, easy to stick it on every channel.
The gate/expander and compressor are very nice and useable. Good EQ. It's based on a high-headroom clean desk, so don't expect driving it into dirt territory. It's just a handy load of processing in a well laid-out package.
Best thing to do is demo it.

That was my next step
Any "noticeable" glue at the summing end?
Thanks for your input.

The only Brainworx console with a summing bus plugin is the Lindell 80 series.
If you happen to have a bus plugin with crosstalk and saturation, such as Sonimus or Slate, you could use that on your master.
The TMT will increase the stereo width slightly, by varying L&R channels on stereo tracks, but I wouldn't look to this for "glue".
If it's glue and/or dirt with a vintage console sound you're after, then I would suggest passing on the N console and getting the Lindell 80 series. If you want a clean channel strip with nice dynamics and EQ, then go for the N.

Just looked at the video. Yeah, it's closer to what I need/expect.
Thanks for your tips!

You should try the demo first. I used bx_console G a lot and it's a useful plugin, if you like the channel strip workflow. CPU light, good sounding and with fast workflow.
The reason why I don't use it anymore was a bug, that only occures in Reaper. If you sidechain anything or generally has more than 2 channels on a track, sidechain doesn't work and also the console audio switches to mono - so it can't be used for send tracks or tracks with sidechaining. But if I'm using a channel strip I want to use it everywhere. I think console N and console G have similar Code, so possibly it has that bug too.
Lindell 80 is (for me) a better channel Strip - all functions from the bx_consoles, but with working sidechaining, optional oversampling and better sounding preamps.

Good on hi hats and vocals, I like waves ssl consoles better than pa consoles.
No PA console's eq can achieve the awesome results of waves ssl eqs.
Console N is pretty clean, pa focusrite sc is pretty clean, too and I like it more with more tweaking or setting options and a de-esser. Lindell S80 will add quite a lot of color to your sound, sometimes that's just what you might want. PA's new SSL 9000 J is very simliar to their SSL G, the eq has just a different range. I compared presets of J with G and could get same results with G. PA console plugins are all not heavy on cpu. That is what you always should do when you demo, take some presets and find out if you can get same results with a plugin you already have. As for glueing there are way better plugins than PA console plugins. PA console plugins work better on single tracks imo. Demo and find out.

Yeah I would try it first. I have the N, the Focusrite and the SSL G and I use the G on everything. The other two were pretty unimpressive, but thats me. The Lindell is the Neve plug to get.
They're really light on CPU though, they were meant to be put on every channel.

PA SSL G is nice, but I do not understand the option to switch from G to E in the compressor section, I can not hear any remarkable difference? Hi hats can get become an issue in mastering chain, when you would like to add some air or adding a como. All of a sudden hi hats get to prominent, too harsh. With console N you can tame hi hats very well, still giving them the place and sound they deserve in a mix.

I have the N and the Lindell. The Lindell gets most of the use when I want a console strip, the N very little.

I paid almost £300 for the N, used it for a while, but Air windows plugins sounded better, so I use them now.
