Auts - Apuva in Finnish! Playback problem of midi tracks
Hi,
I just got access and speaking rights to Forum. I am grateful, but...
I have a problem. After updating my dear Reaper to the latest version 5.2+ this kind of notsokind problem appeared: Midi tracks using instrument plugins stop their playback after some seconds, always in the same spot. And after some seconds standstill the song continues its way to the listener's wilderness without them. No problem with recorded tracks, vocals and guitars. Any ideas, my farmore experienced friends? My working space is Reaper, windows 10, 64 bits, Asio4all / Behringer Asio drivers and Behringer X1204usb mixer.
I still have to say that this problem did not occur before update - well, sometimes the vst /vsti plugins "dropped off" but could be "restored" by closing and opening the project again.

What plug-ins exactly (make/model) are you using? Your description sounds like a 32-bit plug-in is crashing and taking down the other 32-bit plug-ins running in the 32-bit host process.
To find out which one, please read the bit about Event Viewer and crashlogs here:
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=36653
If you rely a lot on old 32-bit plug-ins/freebies it may be recommendable to use 32-bit REAPER instead.

Thank you very many. Much, I mean. If I load and update my present Reaper to 32-bit version, can I have problems with 64-bit elements (windows10 etc)?

As long as you select the VST64 bridging option (I cannot recall exactly what it is named) during the install, you should be able to run 64-bit plug-ins from Reaper 32-bit. (I do , on Windows 7)

Almost relaxing to hear! All is then right and left...Only to do the change in Reaper working space. Jaa mutta - still something, are 32 bit vst plugins even possible to bridge in 64 bit Reaper? I will check that anyway.
Part of the problem might be connected to disk cacheing with SSD hard disk?

32-bit plugins wouldn't play at all if wasn't possible in 64-bit REAPER. It does indeed sound like a crashing plugin, which ones are you using?
SSD cache isn't really related to this issue.

Sorry about being in dance hall gig with my base and voice. That is why the late response, my friend. My problems continue with Reaper. I get problems (starts playing- stops playing - continuing without plugin sounds or not starting the plugin tracks at all) with all other plugins (vst and vsti) except drums (Power Drums by Manda). I get the plugins working when closing the project and Reaper, usually not after the first try, but after several. Recorded tracks, guitars, vocals etc are working ok. I have tried another DAW already (Presonus). It has not the same problem with the same plugins (DSK plugins for example) which are used in Reaper. I do like Reaper, but...

One thing I left not mentioning. I get very often an error window about reaper 32 host not responding. I guess that this should handle 32 bit plugins, when automatic bridging has been chosen, as I have?

That's why I recommended using REAPER 32-bit instead.
For example, DSK plug-ins are SynthEdit based (and many of them are quite buggy), generally SE-based plug-ins need to be compiled later than 2009 or they'll suffer from bugs on multicore computers, also they often don't run well in REAPER 64-bit (probably other 64-bit hosts too) anymore.
At least all SE plug-ins made before 2009/2010 need to run in their own dedicated process on multicore computers (right-click the plug-in in the FX Browser and select "run as"->dedicated process). Running all those oldschool freebies is getting increasingly hard with new-ish hardware and operating systems etc..

Thanks again! You are talking business. This seems to be the case! Freebies are a poor base player's obvious options - but there seems to be a limit to everything, not only with your bank account. I will act according to your tips😆
Any hints for finding good plugins for the present Reaper, they can cost something but not as much as malts (Finnish phrase)? Mainly I need horns, strings and piano / grand piano, hammond organ - other instruments like guitars, base, drums and keyboards I can play somehow.
