Default Trying to connect a lot of gear

Hi Folks, I have a lot of gear and I'd rather not be plugging and replugging all the time. Having sorted the problem of integrating my MIDI the midi inputs with a 16X16 I/O, I need to have enough XLR & 1/4 inputs, preferably with their own channels, to my computer & Reaper.

I have a UMC1820/8 Channel Audio-Midi Interface, which is great, but insufficient to the whole of the task. First idea to stack 1820's proved naive (not stackable). Second thought was to find a mixer with 16 or 24 channels in & 8 out, using the 1820 as the interface. But I haven't found that mixer yet.

I need a minimum of 16 channels, but I can easily fill up 24. Happy to swap the 1820 for an interface with more inputs, but open to jerry-rigging ideas as well. Suggestions?

RME Digiface USB (350€), 4 ADAT in, 4 ADAT out + headphones. Routing via TotalMix.

32 inputs via Behringer ADA8000 (used 50€) or 8200 (new 150€). You can add cheap optical switches for more.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them out. If people have other ideas, I'm all ears!

Can the 8200 be stacked via ADAT?

i'm not sure what you mean by this?

the ada8200 is an analog to digital / digital to analog converter, so it has 8 mic /line ins that it sends to a suitable interface with adat (umc1820 for example) & it can take 8 channels of audio from an adat port & output them via XLRs

An ADAT port can only carry 8 channels at 44 or 48k or 4 channels at 88 or 96k. To use multiple ADA you would need multiple adat ports.

Thanks Stella for the clarification. Much appreciated.

I saw an expansion board for the computer that allows this. I'm not there yet, but its good to know.

IIRCC, the 1820 has ADAT fiberoptic jacks. All you should need to do is get a couple fiber cables and plug them together.

I own a newer Presonus 1824c connected to the 8200 . I also have an older Presonus Audiobox with another 8200 connected. All 4 units have 8 inputs plus digital stereo ins on the Presonus units. Reaper has been set up to recognize all this as a 28 input audio interface. Works great.

Edit: sorry just remembered, this aggregating of audio interfaces only works on Macs, I believe.
