Default Web Interface - Fancier - UPDATED 24/5/2017 : Transitions disable button, fixes.

Update 24th May 2017
  • Option button to enable / disable transitions. Defaults to off for iOS devices (hopefully).
  • Track sends now also show hardware sends.
  • Click time display to type in position or go to marker/region.
  • Other fixes to cure some 'this is all horribly broken' errors.

Update 2nd May 2017
  • Animated frames now rendered as individual tiles on GPU blahblahblah iOS users does this solve the frame rate problems?

Update 26th April 2017

Toolbar (use the hamburger menu) with undo / redo / metronome / snap / clear clip indicators.

I'm using a different method for doing the opening/closing animation, could those experiencing low frame rate on track open/close (iOS and elderly Android users) please test and report back if the toolbar performs better? Cheers!

Update 14th April 2017
  • Simple graphic representation of previous / current / next time position of markers and region, for informed next/previous button based navigation.
  • If current time position is neither a marker nor region border you can tap to drop a marker.
  • Time display moved to top, shows units.

File is attached below as usual, please test! Thanks.

Update 1st March 2017
  • Sends! If the destination track has a custom colour, it will be used. I forgot to do hardware sends from non-master tracks, so that is To Do.
  • Play button surround arc is now drawn using a different method (not that you should care.)
  • Fixes for all the awful iOS problems, and Safari compatibility, by none other than our glorious leader himself.
  • Fixes for other stuff.

If you've tested before and it went badly, I'd be enormously grateful if you'd give it another go, the latest file is attached to this post as before. Thanks!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a WIP on a fancier web interface. There is a single 80kB file with no images (they're all inline SVGs) so just unzip and stick it in the usual place.

It does phone style:

and tablet style:

It has tap-to-expand faders for each track, and marker navigation:

In an effort to improve navigation in arbitrary amounts, I found FFWD/RWD buttons to be a bit hopeless because of the lag inherent in this method of control. So... I've done a jogger wheel thing. Drag forwards or backwards to build up a skip distance, drag further to go faster. When you release it will send that offset to Reaper. I'd really appreciate some feedback on the subjective feel of this, its a classic judgement call with no right answer. Thanks!

Its been tested on Chrome (Windows & Android) but that's all. I know nothing about browser compatibility, and I'm not very interested in learning (pfft), so I will be handing this over to a web type when the time comes. He said to pass on that this will never work on older browsers because of the methods I've used, and will probably never work on Safari because he'd rather smash himself in the face than deal with all that. FYI

The far from exhaustive To Do list:
  • track cloning
  • sends
  • FX
  • panning
  • not having the jog readout covered by your finger when you're jogging, derp.
  • rebuild all the remaining bits that don't line up or look quite right.
  • browser compatibility yawn. hopefully...
  • a way to reset clip indicators
  • Metronome on/off
  • Snap on/off
  • a way to zero faders I don't see a great need for this. Talk me into it...
  • Snap jogger output to nearest beat, not previous beat. No, that's nonsense, right?
  • Hardware sends from non-master tracks.
  • Undo / redo.
  • Peak meter readout on armed tracks.

I've never done any programming before, so shoddiness may abound, which will no doubt need fixing as well.

Track colors !

Awesome new style Looks very modern and fancy. There is a lot of clever details like the number of tracks armed, and region names.
Congrats !
ALso having faders below track... cool :P

It is not on your todo list but may I suggest having track hidden if they are hidden in TCP ? Track visibility support would be great.

Really looking forward to trying this

Edit: Working an looking great

Jog wheel is well thought out.
Number of tracks armed is very helpful!

I'm not getting any response on that middle field that has text "chorus1" in you image. What's intended?
Missing:
- a way to set faders at 0db
- goto > type in beat/time
- Snap jog (beat/measure)

Beat/measure number seems of by 1 measure

Android 5,5" Chrome

I think the "chorus" is the last marker or present region that the edit/play cursor is in. Fwd/back arrows are to next/prev marker/region.

Just a guess, might be wrong

Looking forward to trying this when I get to the laptop, anyone "taken it for a spin" yet?

You may, and yes that would indeed seem correct. Er... I've no clue how to get track hidden status - are you going to make me dive into the API, you bad man? 8|

That's the marker you are AT. I was thinking you could set up your recording session with markers at the bits you might want to be recording, and navigate between them.

Oooooh very nice

Android marshmallow, Samsung galaxy 5, Chrome

Marker names show up as previous / next but never as current, regions don't show up at all - it does navigate to them though

Android nougat, Nvidia Shield K1, Chrome

Same region issue as the Galaxy.
Your tablet screen shot seems to show the whole interface on one page (portrait), it's too large to fit my screen, cuts off about halfway down the record button.

The jog thingamy is cool and works but it displays position in beats, then jogs in seconds. Would be nice if the jog values were grid divisions

Otherwise, it's working well - cheers !

Awesome! Really nice work!

I see sends are on the to do list.

A big use for this for studios would be so that the musicians can use their phones for headphone mixes.

To do that they would need to be able to select their "cuebuss" track (where all the received sends are) and see all these receives as a mixer so they can adjust how much of each musician they hear.

So hopefully not just sends but we should be able to see all the receives for the selected track at once And also "lock" to that track only.

This would be amazing thanks.

@White Tie
Hehehe, I feel your pain, I also tried to implement it ^^

Thing is that state is not return by the main TRACKS call.

That's why I wrote this Feature Request:
Web Browser Interface - Track infos

Meanwhile, you can actually get the TCP visibility for indivisual tracks this way:
GET/TRACK/1/B_SHOWINTCP
The returned string will be:
GET/TRACK/1/B_SHOWINTCP\t <index>

It has to be put in a request loop, and then results have to be parsed. Possible, but not very handy... That's why I made the FR referenced above.

Also, I format the Web Browser doc, this can help you while moding, a bit more readable than mode.js :P

Ok, so it's only for play-cursor on that excaxt place.
For some odd reason it doesn't work on M2 here:

Seems to be when marker is offbeat.

Works on the other markers.

For M3 above it displays:
51.1.00
4/4 - 0/50

It should be 0/51, or 1/51
shouldn't it?

Little OT but still relevant (I think). Does anyone else here experience web gui sometimes work sometimes not? It connect to it without problem but no tracks, commands not working etc?

Anyway while working, did not experienced any issues, worked flawlessly on my Galaxy S3 CyanogenMod 13 default browser

Since I use this only for Headphone Mixes (so looking forward to sends implementation). Its like moving little "blindly" if you know what I mean. You do not actually hear where you are unless you release the wheel (maybe there is an option for this in reaper??). It is very sensitive so you need to hold it very short time and release,or if you hold for a little longer time then you move to a location where you did not want. But generally it good but just needs some sound feedback (I think this has nothing to do with web) to know where you are and little less sensitive IMHO

maybe this explains everything, and jog is not intended for that

I tried on iPhone (both in Safari and Chrome) to control the PC computer ... does not work at all. Only "master" section shows and no controls work (play, record, stop). Switching back to normal version, all works normally

AMAZING WORK!

Very very nice.
May I steal something for my interface?
(here: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.p...46#post1805546)

I like very much the jog wheel.

Some but still not clear issues on iOS. Sometimes the tracks are not shown, only the master is available then the page loading stops.
I'll check it again because it is GREAT!

UPDATE 22/2/17
file attached to post #1.
  • Fixed (hopefully) - all tracks not drawing for some people.
  • Jog wheel will jog in Measures/Beats if that's your Reaper transport time unit.
  • Tracks will not be drawn if not visible in TCP.
  • time signature stuff. Maybe I've fixed things, maybe I've made them worse. Its an adventure!

Excellent !
Hope it will be shipped with REAPER soon :P

Tested:
  • TCP Hidding doesn't do anything here.
  • You chould include interface version as Header Meta, or in Ttitle, to make bug reporting easier (so that you will be sure what version is used by the user). Title is more accessible.

How is it working with for graphical design compared with traditional images?

file attached to post #1.
  • tweaked the TCP visibility thing. Works here with latest pre ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • Version now in title - 22/2/17b.
  • Measures / Beats jogger output will discard 100ths if snap is on in Reaper. Snap to nearest added to To Do.

edit: oh now it works after refresh.. it was just that it took too long to load. Then it is very very slow on my old phone. So I can't use it.

it is not working for me on chrome android
Tracks not appearing, and buttons don't do anything.
the default index.html that comes with REAPER works.
Maybe I just need to update chrome. I'll try.

replace with this :

Code:
if(tok[3]&512){ //track hidden in TCP
  document.getElementById("track" + idx).style.display="none";
} else {
  document.getElementById("track" + idx).style.display = "block";

@White Tie
Tested on FireFox, Chrome, Edge. desktop Windows.

Android 5 Chrome.

The interface doesn't work on old Android v4.1 (chrome, dolphin). You only have background or just the top jog (left right arrow), but this may not be necessary to support this. But the fancy interface work on it (layout is not perfect but it works).

Anyway, as reference for browser compatibility :
Can I use... Support tables for HTML5, CSS3, etc

You may also consider taking a loot at :
Modernizr: the feature detection library for HTML5/CSS3

Damn right it doesn't I'm shamelessly using flexbox and HTML5 canvas and loving it, which is why I'm breaking a multi-decade "I don't do web coding" personal rule here. Thanks for your suggestions though, if I were a better man I would follow up on them!

Totally understand you for Flexbox, this is a go-to feature. I totally understand that you don't want to use something else.
But thanks to Modernizr, you can have fallbacks :P

Hi.

This is such a time/hassle saver in a solo studio - thank you!

Only one small issue for me...

I can't get the jog wheel working on Chrome (v56.0.2924.87) on my Android (v6.01). It responds and I can see red and green values but, when I let go of the jog wheel, the project play cursor is unaffected (whether the project is playing or stopped).

Thanks again :-)

weird... doesn't work for me at all in chrome or safari. It shows and reflects changes in reaper, but tapping on things doesn't do anything.
