sq8l is a great instrument. For those wanting sounds for it,
here are some links,

http://1-2-many.weebly.com/vsti-banks.html (a collection scoured from the net
200+ banks with .SYX or .8XL extentions)

http://rekkerd.org/patches/plug-in/sq8lsq8x/

https://www.kvraudio.com/product/sq8...mann/downloads

https://sites.google.com/site/kvrosc/osc-19-sq8l
(One-Synth-Challenge sq8l results)

It's worked in my reaper/wine setups forever.
Cheers

Hi!

Did anyone have any luck using Sforzando with Reaper on Linux?

I try to use it with LinVst bridge, but have some issues: it loads and plays sfz-instruments, but doesn't show its UI correctly. When using standalone version with wine UI works perfectly, I can see active keyboard at the bottom, instrument's info and GUI. With LinVst Sforzando doesn't update it's UI after loading an instrument.

Is it an issue with LinVst or maybe I have to configure something?

Anyone have fast internet, and want a cool freebie to test?
IK Multimedia have a free version of their just-released-today
'Syntonix',

http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/syntronik/

Differences from the massive 50-gig full version,
is it offers 50 sounds out of 50-gig,
and (I think?) the freebie samples may lack round-robin,
but it includes all 38 effects found in the full version,
and 5 of the total can be used on each track, as is the case
with the SampleTank 3 effects section.

So no noisebursts, sound dropouts, or restarts, as in some freebies.
While at it, SampleTank 3 also has a free version, different sounds etc
but the Syntronic sounds can be imported in ST3, and the Syntronix installer
will place it's sounds in a SampleTank 3 path, or create it
as part of the install, I assume.
(EDIT: 4 layers appears to be the norm in Syntronics, it's Sampletank 3
that offers 16 layers, EDIT #2 I think that each layer in a Syntronik
preset, when imported into SampleTank, will occupy one of the 16
layers available in SampleTank, so if you had made four Syntronik presets
each having four layers, you would have filled all 16 Sampletank slots.

Users are starting to post their actual experiences,
at page 61 of a kvr forum topic (at the link)

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewto...5111&start=900

If the install and reg are found in working order for linux users,
it will be another chink in Kontakts armour. I registerd IK's Ampltube 4 freebie, so fingers crossed for these also.

@David: thanks for mentioning the new wine! Hope you can try,
and enjoy the freebies!
Cheers

I tried it out with some Kawai samples http://freepats.zenvoid.org/Piano/ac...and-piano.html and some others.

The UI instrument display seems to update when instruments are loaded from the menu.

It's probably a Wine thing but I'll see if I can do anything.

The standalone version loads external graphic files for it's GUI and the vst would have the graphic files built in, so it looks like something Wine is doing with the vst.

The vst depends on OpenGL/D3D as well, and that can cause problems for older video hardware that doesn't have newer OpenGL (D3D) capabilities.

This sounds more like a demo than like a freebie, but don't provide any information about what restrictions the "free" version features.

In Mint18. wine 2.11, I was able to register IK Multimedia's
Sonik Synth 2, and it's working in linux reaper via linvst.
Bodes well for using IK's new Syntronik. SS2 has some great sounds.

sforzando.so in my linux reaper won't import, or receive sounds
by drag&drop, but sforzando in windows reaper via wine
does both. Tested using sfz files from
Cakewalk's Dimension Pro, most of it's samples are .flac files,
with some .wav files.

But loading soundfonts caused sforzando to lock up.
Quite a mixed bag. But using an ethereal choir from
SS2, like a reverb, with a Dimension Pro grand piano in sforzando,
was very enjoyable, but for now I'm too sleepy to care...

Have you tried linuxsampler?

It loads and plays gig, sf2, and sfz files. Native linux 64bit. Standalone, linuxvst, win vst and lv2 plugin formats.

I had a look at the sforzando binary and it's using the ole32 dll.

I can get the standalone sforzando working with drag and drop but the vst doesn't enable drag and drop for some reason, maybe because of some sort of library conflict.

They'll send occasional product announcements,
and various discount or bundle offers,
maybe some video links on occasion.

When you first run a newly installed product,
you'll be asked if you want to register at that time.
Your product account keeps track of serial numbers,
and digital ID numbers, which you cut/paste to register.
Handy to have on file when you get a new computer.

Having to register a freebie seems odd to some,
but it helps them gauge musician interest, and over the years,
the beancounters can colate the sales data with demo use,
and steer product developements to
products that people will want to own.

the CS in the name, is a 'Custom Shop' where you can
buy sounds ala-carte, so if it's just a Martin guitar you want,
you don't pay drums and keys and brass etc
Cheers

Thanks for the info. To be clear, the 427 meg includes some sounds,
probably several Grand Pianos. I just installed and older version
I had saved for a rainy day, and it is a 408 meg archive, and when
installed, includes 4 grand pianos. The 1.2 gig will be more sounds
they released over time, as SampleTank 3 was getting it's sea legs.

The V3.6 executable is only 5.3 meg, and the .dll 213 K,
the other 400 meg are sounds and IK infrastructure.

At the moment, I have one ST3 piano loaded in the standalone app, and a
different one in windows reaper via wine, sounds quite wonderful.
If your keyboard has good or excellent velocity sensitivity,
they can be very expressive.
Cheers

Zampler-RX is working via LinVst, it's another sfz host,
coded by Synapse Audio, has envelopes for amp, mod, and filters,
3 lfo's, and a nice effects section. There is a 170 meg demo soundbank,
and 3 free sound collections at the link. Zampler-RX is a 2.3 meg download.
The gui is attractive and works fine.

Ages ago, I used it with the java gui, fantasia, I think,
and also qsampler, so I installed it with qsampler again,
started qsampler, and loaded some sfz pianos from the Dimension Pro multisamples folder. No issues, or weird work-flow.

The vst plugin version wasn't playing well with reaper or qtractor,
but I'll keep the standalone with qsampler gui,
and pay more attention to it's progress.
sfz 'compatibility' seems pretty shaky overall, regardless of OS,
so having a few players to choose from is welcome.

I've got the sforzando vst working with drag and drop but only with the standalone window LinVst version and not the embedded window (reparented window) LinVst version.

"XDND drag-and-drop does not work with reparented external windows, since messages are exchanged with the toplevel window only. This is done for performance reasons. While it is cheap to get the window under the mouse pointer, it is very expensive to get a window under another window. Unfortunately, this is required quite often when dragging objects around, since the pointer may overlap the drag icon.

Solving the drag-and-drop problem, however, is quite easy, since the XDND protocol was carefully designed in a way that makes it possible to support embedded windows. Basically, the embedder has to operate as drag-and-drop proxy for the client. Any XDND messages like XdndEnter, Xdnd,Leave, etc. simply have to be passed through. A toolkit's XDND implementation has to take this situation in consideration."

Sampletank 3 is working in linux reaper via LinVst.
I should probably use an exclamation point, since that
means I can add my 30 gig of Sampletank 2.5 soundsets
to linux with ST3. Gonna be a fun weekend!

This is a really a high grade freebie, to dismiss over
a technicality, and few minutes of cut/paste reg time.
If you think in terms of the long run, where you want
your productivity to be in 2020 and beyond, keep in mind that
IK typically have some great discount sales
and group buys, on world-class products, and 2nd-hand licenses
are also sold sometimes, so having an account in place simplifies
taking advantage of future opportunities.

The Pianos in SampleTank 3 Free are
going to be better than anything you'll find in linux,
unless you buy the great PianoTeq. Syntronik itself is getting positive reviews by people I've recognized over the years, to be reliable sources.

There are also free versions of Amplitube 4 for guitar,
and their T-Racks mastering plugins collection, each having
an ala-carte Custom shop, to affordably bolster what is given away.
Cheers

The separate sound library has always been a part of the free and/or Custom Shop version.
The sound library is available for download as soon as the main file is available.
It is located under "Sounds Downloads" in the SAMPLETANK 3 section of "My Products" in the user area.
The sounds library needs to be downloaded within 180 days of registering the plug-in.
I'm only pointing this out because your posts make it sound like it's a separate add-on when it's actually part of the free package people are signing up for.

Please don't argue semantics, SampleTank 3 Free
and the extra sound collection are separate products,
or separate downloads, the label chosen means nothing.
They released the various extra sounds
sequentially over time, as they were completed,
as separate downloads, such as

SampleTank_3_Free_Sound_Content_Rhythm_Section.zip

and eventually put them all in a large archive,
a move I'd like them to reverse, for people with
metered or slow download, or desiring just
a portion of the whole.

SampleTank 2.5.4 is working via LinVst,
so probably can expect the same for SampleMoog,
SampleTron, Sonik Synth, and the other IK derivatives
and 3rd party expansion soundsets. I copied
all such sounds into the SampleTank Instruments folder,
where all can be used from the same gui.

www.esoundz.com sells many of these, often
at nice discounts.

For the Zampler plugin, I got the free Waldorf Drums
collection, it has 10 kits, each with
13 synth-electronic-drum sounds. Lots of fun,
and good fodder for making some Hydrogen kits.

I don't see how semantics are involved.
You have an old product that technically doesn't exist anymore.
You're telling people to get the new product that took over for it, but dismissing or suggesting they ignore the library that's a major feature of the new product.
I'm really only interested in making people aware of what's included if they take time to sign up for this.
I'll leave it alone with this:

For anyone interested in SampleTank 3 Custom Shop, please be sure to download the library that comes with it.
The library includes 30 instruments, some loops and several midi files for those instruments and loops.

I'm the one who introduced the IK products
for discussion. You've got quite an imagination.
Hope you will divert it to creating Music.
I've been using SonikSynth, Sampletank, and Zampler,
via both LinVst and wine, and very happy with the
mornngs results.

Trash2 is working via LinVst, and in reaper with wine.
It seems to be a precision distortion/filtering workstsation.
Has various metering and drawables. Could be
heavenly in well distorted hands. I think it uses
a simple serial number for registration.

Demo is at

Default LinVst - GUI windows wont shut

Hi OSXMIDI,
I'm using the latest LinVst with Wine 2.13 on Ubuntu Studio 17.04.
In REAPER the LinVST GUI window wont close, it will if I close the REAPER window that also opens. Also, the GUI always opens behind REAPER's window.
In Bitwig 2 there is no other way to close an open LinVST and requires a forced shutdown of the whole app.
Any ideas?

Is that the standalone window version?

I'll take a look at it and hopefully fix it for the next version which should be soon.

Edit:

I remember disabling the standalone window's close option, because I wanted to keep the open/close window in sync with Reapers (fx) button, but I'll look at changing it.

@OSXMIDI

I did a litle investigation on Sforzando. I compared logs in "~/.wine/drive_c/users/<username>/Application Data/Plogue/Aria"

The standalone "AriaEngine_sforzando x64.log" has such lines:

I:0x b10: 243:24385422:refreshViewCompletely
I:0x b10: 243:24385423:Load Controls GUI C:/Program Files/Plogue/sforzando/GUI/gui_ambience.xml

And the "AriaEngine_lin-vst-server.log" doesn't have them. And in bridged vst version I can't see Ambience FX GUI, as well as the instruments GUI. Looks like something prevents sforzando from refreshing the interface.

I also ran reaper5 and standalone version of sforzando with "WINEDEBUG=+loaddll". The loaded DLLs seem to be the same in both cases.

Interesting.

Maybe it's a path problem due to what Wine is doing with the vst or where the vst actually is located.

Some vst's seem to like fixed paths, such as Addictive Drums.

If some vst's are taken out of the installation default path (usually within the wineprefix .wine/drive_c) then they may possibly have path problems.

---

Addictive Drums 2 (Addictive Drums 2 requires that the dll (and therefore the renamed linvst.so) needs to be loaded from the installation directory, ie a fixed path).

I tried loading it from ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/Plogue/sforzando/VST" (copying renamed linvst.so there and refreshing Reaper vst cache). Nothing changed.

I'm using wine-staging 2.13 on Arch linux, latest linvst from git (embed6432-rt version) and latest Reaper. Tried different versions of sforzando, tried stable wine, tried compiling linvst as standalone vst window version. Nothing changes.

I have a bunch of free guitar amp sims (LePou, Mercurial etc.), all working absolutely perfect with linvst. Only sforzando sampler doesn't want to.

One window's controls (ambience) don't appear at all.

As far as I can tell, it seems to be a path problem, where the vst doesn't seem to know where the Aria etc directories are.

I tried setting some things in the registry (Plogue) but the registry entries need to be compared to a real Windows installation to see if anything is missing.

The vst is getting the path to the converted files ok, because that path is in the registry.

Cakewalk's Dimension Pro and Rapture are working
via Airwave, on a setup with some C lib to old for
LinVst 1.5. They work better using wine, as some sounds
will load in the Airwaved plugin, but then not sound when played,
I'll try them in a newer linux using LinVst pretty soon.
Lots of great sounds to process.
Cheers

After moving up from wine 2.11 to 2.12, the z3ta+1.5 plugin
stopped making sound. It's always been very successful.
Wound up doing a reinstall, where the stand-alone worked,
but the plugin didn't work in wine/reaper (where it has worked
for years prior)

So I ran it through airwave, and it's working in linux reaper,
instead of wine reaper.

All that to affirm that we are still in uncharted waters.
But with cool paddles, and a nice breeze.
Cheers

An oddity, in the reaper plugin selector,
Both SampleTank 2.5 and SonikSynth2 are listed as:

PrPa&Ky? (IK Multimedia)

with the 'a' having some accent on top,
and the '?' is inside a rectangle.
Also listed that way on the plugin panel dock.

QuikQwak Bar Chimes is listed as

?aey?

rectangles around the '?', and 3 different
sqiggles on top of the aey letters.

Nothing appears like that for any other plugins.
Also, the Bar Chimes gui dispays only the top half
of the left half of the normal interface, in both
linux and wine reaper, but plays as expected.
Cheers

Lovely!
That's how i feel too, there's so much charm exploring these new possibilities.

Back on track with the SWAM thing, the company answered my email with this link inside. So at least one user succeded making the most advanced saxophone modeling app work on Linux. He used Vsthost and Playonlinux on top of Wine and procedded on trial and error. There's maybe even more simpler ways nowadays since Wine and the wrappers evolved fast since the writing of his guide.
