Default Faderport 8 not connecting to Reaper

Hi,

I'm pretty excited to get this thing working after going through your manual, really beautiful work on that!

So, I upgraded to a Mac Studio this summer, and have been unable to get the Faderport 8 to work with Reaper (or any other controller, for that matter). It works fine with Logic and Ableton. I've gone through the forum and checked that things mentioned there are correct in my system, which they appear to be.

I'm on Monterey 12.6, processor is M1 Max.

Reaper is version 6.69.

The FP responds when I fire up Reaper, but it's really strange. 3 of the faders slide up, but when I move them, nothing in Reaper responds. The scribble scripts are blank. The transport does NOT work either.

Thanks for looking into this!

Jeff

Default HEEELP! - Reaper won't start after installing/updateing to 1.0.1

Hi!

I have a problem: I downloaded the latest Reasonus (v1.0.1) from the GitHub page, and installed it.
Now I can't open Reaper AT ALL.

Please help me what to do to get back to at least the basic functionality without Reasonus.

I paste the error message below:

(update: I deleted reaper_csurf_intagrator.dylib from MyUser/Library/Application Support/Reaper/User Plugins, and voila, it starts now. Might be worth looking into the matter, though.)

Hi Jeff, Can you provide me the next info:
  • csi.ini (can be found in the csi folder in the reaper resource folder))
  • The lines starting with `csurf_` of the reaper.ini file (in teh reaper resource folder))
  • The reaper-midihw.ini file (In the reaper resource folder)

Regards, Erwin

YES!!

This is sitting in the same bucket of amazingly useful as both Bitfocus Companion and Central Control.

Being able to really easily and externally map parameters to controls is a god-send for someone who isn't very good with code

Default Amazing! VCA lead view

Hi,

First off wow! I started using CSI a couple years ago before ReaSonus install. This is a game changer!

Is there a way to have a view of just the VCA leads when you press the VCA button on the faderport?

Thanks for all your hard work on this!

Default Working. . . mostly

Hi Erwin,

For some reason, I didn't get the notification that you had replied to me, so first, thanks for getting back to me. I Just downloaded Reason's and installed it again, it's working great for the most part. There are a couple of little niggly things not quite working correctly, though:

1) Play button toggles on the Play & Pause, won't toggle the Pause off, so I have to use the mouse.
2) The track select buttons aren't working quite right. Initially, the individual track select works just fine. But when I go to use the Left Shift-select option for multiple track, it only works if the Arm button is engaged. Then it takes a bit of doing to get the function to disengage, I'm not really sure how I get there, tbh.
3) The Right Shift-Select doesn't work as intended at all. It functions more like the Left Shift-Select is intended to work. Perhaps I'm reading it incorrectly, but my understanding is that if I shift Track 1, then RS-Select 4, that tracks 1-4 should then all be selected. I did find that if I RS-select all of those tracks at once, that then they are all selected, so in that way it works.
4) Loop Button isn't toggling.
5) Record button isn't working.

Thanks so much for all of your work on this. It's really a game-changer!

Currently this is not implemented. CSI v2 has some improvements there. Will add this to the list for ReaSonus v2.

Last couple of weeks a lot was going on, so did not had the time and energy to continue v2. Will try to continue this from next week.

Default Plugins

Hi Erwin. First off thanks for the work you have put in on this project. It is coming along nicely! I see you are working on making it easier to program plugins into the fx zones. (I need that!) Have you given any thought to how Presonus addressed that issue. In Studio One when you go to edit a third-party plugin you have 2 options. You can either assign the buttons you want to control, or you can populate the faders by pressing the shift button and the edit plugins button together. Apparently, it reads the parameters and assigns them to the available faders and select buttons. Of course, with a lot of plugins you have more parameters than faders so by using the Pan/Param knob you can scroll through pages to find the parameters you want to adjust. I personally use both methods because it can get a little confusing at times due to the lack of scribble strip space for parameter identity. Again, thanks for the excellent work that you have done!

I recommend adding a step in the manual for selecting CSI in the Control surfaces/osc/web control menu.

I kind of assumed installation would take care of this step and i couldn't get it to work for a while. So I had it on the native faderport protocol (which worked, but not 100%).

Then by accident i saw CSI was in the dropdown menu.

This is totally due to my blindness and ignorance, but i think having it in the manual will help.

Thanks for the work!

Will add it to the docs. The installer should do this and I know in most cases it is working properly. But for those cases it does not install properly an addition to the docs is nbot that bad.

Thanx for mentioning this

Default Controlling Multiple Selected Tracks

Hi, There!

Thank you so much for all the time dedicated to putting this together. I've got it up and running with full functionality!

I am using a Faderport V2 and my only question is if there is a way to be able to control multiple selected tracks for volume and panning.

Right now if I select more than one track, the fader drops to the bottom and has no effect on anything. Same thing with panning; however, pressing the encoder in does reset all selected tracks.

Is this something I can edit in the .zon file? Or do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

First off, thank you so much for putting so much work into this! I can't wait start using it!

As the intro might suggest, I can't seem to be able to install this. I'm on Windows 10, own a FaderPort V2. I've followed the instructions and disabled FP in Reaper etc, but the installer doesn't seem to be able to detect any FaderPort device. What am I missing?

Default Thank you

Got a faderport without realizing it's limitations with reaper. I just liked the look and feel of it. Reasonus is the most useful program I've gotten since Reaper itself. Thank you thank you thank you.

Dude, this thing is awesome. For real! So thanks for your hardwork.

I hope you can show me right direction.
I wanted to automate the Mute of the send channels to some reverb. So I set everything up, write mode, arm the envelope and start hitting the "M"-Button on the Faderport and in the IO-menu of the channel I see that the mute-button is toggling, but it does not write any automation. Do you have an idea what I am doing wrong?

Edit: Damn, and I want to write a pan-automation it is writing points, but it is always switiching back to Center. Maybe you can see it in my attachment pic.
Ah, it doesn't work in touchmode, but in latch. Maybe it has something to do that the poti isn touch-sensible?!

But anyway: great work!

Hello from just about the new years! I've been using (2) Novation Launchpad XLs - with fairly good results actually - for several years. Today I received my new Faderport 16 which I knew I'd be using a lot in Ableton, but thought there wouldn't be an issue with Reaper. Ran across this thread and my heart kinda fell in my chest a bit. I take it we are still a ways from making this a plug and play affair? I'm more disappointed by this than I think I should be. Was really looking forward to working with it in Reaper.

I got the FaderPort v2 (the only one I own and have access to) working with CSI 2.0. I rethought the workflow a bit. If Erwin is ok with it I'd love to share and/or contribute.

Hello! Loving Reasonus, its been awesome to be able to use the full capabilities of my faderport V2.

Just wondering if there's a way to change a default button though. When switching to a different project tab the 'channel' button gets selected (out of channel/pan/scroll etc). Is there a way to change this? For example I mostly use the 'Section' button to scroll left and right, would rather have this as the default instead of having to press it each time. Is this possible? Thanks

In the FP2_Home.zon file, you can try changing the "NavigatorChannel" line to "NavigatorSection".

Default Section to Channel not working

Hi,
bought Faderport v2 a couple of days ago, installed Reasonus, all good (- once I'd got the firmware update from Presonus!) - except one niggle so far. If I have 'section' selected, I can't then select 'channel'. When I press 'channel', nothing happens. I have to press 'scroll' and then go to 'channel'
I updated my CSI to the latest one. That didn't make a difference.
One other thing, in the documentation sections for V2, sections 5 and 7 are both called Track Navigator, I suspect one is supposed to be Scroll navigator.

Apart from that, really, really impressed so far. It's a delight. Many thanks. Bernard.

(Buying Faderport V2 new, I also get a free copy of Studio One Artist.. mmmm I've been curious about this.)

Default New Faderport 16 Not Working

Hey, I've installed everything according to instructions, but I'm only getting 8 of 16 channels operational. Also, scribble strips are not displaying track names.

See video:
https://video.joelschwartz.ca/share/dg868mo45r3vcwqp

EDIT: I didn't realize (documentation isn't clear) that FP16 has to be in StudioOne mode.

I know that this may not be the correct thread to ask this question but since all of you are faderport users of different levels and since reasonus existence made me think of buying a faderport 8, i want to ask what’s your opinion on the way it works with reaper?
I also think of the similarly priced behringer x-touch. Any idea on how do they compare in Reaper use?
I have to add that my workflow is more like the old pro tools way, with many external gear and minimal plug in use. Mixing, automation, locators, zooming, scrubing, and such things are the big selling points for me.

I'm thinking about starting a facebook group for Faderport 8/16 users using Reasonus.

Anyone interested?

I have faderportv2 and use it with Reasonus and it's very good.there are a couple of glitches for me,one being when I'm in Marker mode and the person behind Reasonus doesn't seem to respond when points are raised.but overall, very good. I particularly like it for automation.

There's mostly upsides. CSI and other extensions that support it make this a formidable unit for almost every purpose.

The one actual downside is that as soon as one fader moves because of existing automation, any fader movement on your part is sent to Reaper at a date rate of a third or less. In other words the sample rate of the automation is dramatically lowered. This makes it not useful for mixers that want to perform fast fader movements. I've documented this several times in the past and told this to support. I think it's a serious design flaw. This of course only applies to Faderports 8 and 16. The single-fader version seems to be alright.

However if you do not need to record fast fader movements, this is a great unit.

I cannot however speak to how well the X-Touch performs. I've considered getting a single-fader X-Touch unit or perhaps a Presonus Faderport v2. Apart from this flaw in the multi-fader units I've had an excellent time with this controller, which in my case is the Faderport 16.

On the flip side: I'm not a FaderPort user, but let me make the case for the X-Touch.

Benefits of the X-Touch:
1. 8 endless rotary encoders (one for each channel) with push
2. About a million more buttons, each with LED feedback
3. 4 modifiers (in CSI you get more with Marker, Nudge, Flip, Zoom, and Global)
4. Universal DAW compatibility as it's basically a 1:1 Mackie MCU clone

From what I've seen of the FaderPort8/16, the benefits there are nicer screens with more lines. Both units support color in CSI from what I understand, but the X-Touch only supports 8, so I'd give the FaderPort the advantage there too.

I honestly think the X-Touch Universal is the better overall product even though the FaderPort does have a few advantages (namely the displays).

Agree 100% with that !

The Faderport series is excellent, but on balance, the X-Touch is the best general DAW controller, all things considered, IMHO.

Full disclosure, I recently switched from a multi Avid Artist controllers setup to the X-Touch.

Default Faderport, Reasnous and Plugin Mapping

Has anyone ventured into plugin mapping? Do you know if this technique is compatible with reasonus?

Thanx to galgogergo for mentioning
Thanks for creating this awesome tool... however!

CSI previous install bug still buggy. Problem was solved by deleting my old CSI folder and reinstalling. Not hard to do but maybe annoying for someone using other controllers through CSI (not me, so I didn't care).

Default Reasonus doesn't start automatically

Hi all, I correctly installed Reasonus, but it doesn't start automatically, as soon as I start reaper, I have to go to Control/OSC/web and select control surface integrator and faderport 16. Is there a way to start it automatically? Thanks for the replies.

I'm not having that problem. I'm on the latest Reaper and the latest Mac OS, for whatever it's worth.

Make sure you're booting up in Presonus mode?

Thanks for the reply, yes the faderport is in STUDIO ONE mode. Could someone else help me figure out what's wrong? Thank you.

I have Windows 10 with Reaper ver. 6.77

Default Great work

Just got my Faderport V2 and its up and running with ReaSonus. I had some problems, and spent two - three hours with it not working on one computer. Long story short : I installed ReaSonus on three different computers. Two working just after installation, one not. Presonus Universal Control and Studio One not working.
CopperLan midi network had auto-grabbed the Faderport V2 and blocked the midi ports.
Just my tip.

Default Link on master track

The only issue I've had so far is with the Link function on my FPV2 - it doesn't seem to work with plugins inserted on my Master track! All the rest, working like a charm!

Default Faderport 2 with Reasonus interface - Setup problem solved.

ReaSonus Faderport 2 Control Surface Integration software with Reaper works perfectly as described . . . all the buttons/functions work. Note: I followed the set up instructions perfectly, but hit a road block. I could not get the Faderport to connect with Reaper (it sat there dead).

SOLUTION - In addition to following the setup instructions, YOU MUST DO THE FOLLOWING: Go to Reaper Preferences>Control /OSC/Web>ADD, then from dropdown menu choose Control Surface Integration (CSI). The Pages=ReaSonus Function and Surfaces= Faderport V2. After closing then reopening Reaper, ReaSonus worked perfectly as described.
Also, be sure to update the Faderport 2 firmware by downloading and using Presonus's Universal Control. You must select the Studio One mode by Next+Pwr On, then Solo (when buttons start blinking). ReaSonus uses the Studio One mode so don't change it.
I hope this is helpful if you go this route with the Faderport.
