have you tried Magic music visuals??
you can route channels from Reaper using rearoute to control visuals
you have midi control over the visuals...
not sure if thats what you were wanting??
theres a trial version you could download to trial it

heres a couple of demos i did with the trial version a while back using magic music visuals tied with reaper

Thanks, I'll give it a try. What are the limitations of the trail version ?
I want the video to react in rythm with the music.

the only limitation i found with magic music visuals trial was not able to save a project

i used OBS to record those 2 demos i made, i just wanted to see what was possible with it.
another consideration is using something like Nestdrop midnight edition, which is not free... and then pipe the graphics feed using spout into magic music visuals... or something like that..
Nest drop is more or less milkdrop... with more bells and whistles.

i believe there is a way to make the music change the visuals in Winamp with milkdrop as well... its to do with the linein:
i cannot remember how i done it... but i believe you can get it to react to a small degree, with the milkdrop plugin...

Magic music visuals allows for more reactive sound channels to affect the visuals, with Rearoute... up to 16

It’s certainly possible to write video processor presets to make music visualizations like in Winamp, but nobody has really done it yet. We have the decorative oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer things, but they’re pretty basic. I made a couple of variations of the oscope, and was working on some other stuff but ended up following a rabbit down a hole and never really got back to it. There are places you can find code for some of the Winamp stuff, but translating it to the video processor is not trivial.

Milkdrop and AVS can use the linein plugin but I've never found it to respond very well to audio. Also I'm not sure about the licensing implications of using Milkdrop/AVS visuals, I seem to recall that there are restrictions on using it publically.

Magic Music Visuals is awesome and very powerful but also has quite the learning curve. The GUI isn't exactly intuitive and the contextual help dialogues can be somewhat impenetrable. I've spent hours in it and still find it quite diffifcult to program exactly what I want it to do. It has a modular environment something like patching a modular synth. It's great software though and comes with a decent collection of presets which help with the learning curve. Definitely worth persevering with.

You might also check out Imaginado Visual Synth. It's cheaper and much more user-friendly, although the pay off is that it's less powerful than MMV. It runs as a plugin in your DAW. Earlier versions only came with about 50 base components (shaders) but it's now been updated so that you can write/edit your own shaders or import outside ones, eg from MMV. There's a decent onlline community for downloading third party shaders.
