Default Wild Child at the beginning of the timeline?

Reaper makes a good stereo system so often what I will do is grab a bunch of .wav files and insert them into the timeline, press play and listen continuously through my headphones. Lotta fun.

But what I don't understand is I have seen Reaper place the song that starts with the close to the last letter of the alphabet (like the song Wild Child), at the beginning of the timeline, so that song which should be at the end is actually placed at the beginning.

As far as I know, Reaper places songs alphabetically. Hence my perplexed state.

It depends on which file you drag'n'drop, even when multiple files are selected.

Like if you mark all in a folder by Ctrl+A and then point your mouse on the first one e.g. named "angrysong.wav" and drag it onto a track in Reaper (while all other wavs are still selected) then you end up with, lets's say correct order.

If you however point to last one in folder e.g. named "waltersong.wav", then you end up with this file as a first in order, following by all the others already in correct order.

I think it is the way how Windows internally pass arguments to apps or something like that.

I'm not dragging nor dropping. I go into a folder and select which songs I want by holding down Ctrl key and clicking with the mouse.

Then I hit Open and when Reaper asks me if I want all songs on the same track or different tracks, I answer with the same track.

It does not matter if then drag'n'drop or click Open. There is always some file added as first.

BTW, you can see the order of files in the filename line of that Open dialog box. You can check yourself which file was set as first in order.

The last file you clicked will be first.
