Honestly the only compressor I really use anymore is POWAIR by SoundRadix:
https://www.soundradix.com/products/powair/

"POWAIR was designed to be a smarter, more natural sounding compressor. It’s a dual-stage loudness leveler / compressor / limiter powered by a novel, proprietary compression engine which provides greater transparency and control than ever before.

The first stage is a K-weighted loudness leveler, perfect for leveling a voice-over or auto-adjusting the level of different pieces of music. In its second compression stage, POWAIR uses an innovative gain detection and reduction engine, capable of fast gain changes with minimal distortion and adaptive response to the source.

The unique Punch feature enables full control over the transients’ levels during the attack stage, making it possible to shape the transients’ lengths while keeping peak levels under control.

And in an industry first, POWAIR features Adaptive Compression to maintain an average compression action, adding intensity and glue while keeping the natural dynamics of the recording."

There are a bunch of other cool things like being able to set Attack and Release based on the tempo map in Reaper, so it'll change behavior automatically as the song tempo changes.

On Sale for $99.99 right now

I'm trying to kerb my spending, so I'm allowing myself one more purchase. I am stuck between Melodyne Essential and iZotope Holiday Bundle. I see Melodyne Essential as an upgrade path, but the Holiday Bundle upgrades my Ozone and Neutron Elements and let's me make use of Audiolens (and helps match EQ on reference tracks).... Any advice?

For me Melodyne is a must have. I never really got into iZotope/Ozone so my impression that it’s mostly about convenience is probably uninformed.

I use Melodyne for pitch correction, de-essing and various little surgical edits but also to create and transfer tempo maps directly to REAPER’s tempo envelope which is super helpful.

Arturia has a sale - upgrade to V Collection 9 for only $99, that's a good deal.

And Cinesamples has a big sale, got a pipe organ for $49 (was $150). Nice addition to my orchestral template.

Liquidsonics is running a sale as well. Very good reverbs, from inexpensive to outlandishly configurabe(and pricey).

I upgraded my Melodyne to the Essential version. Don't need to go further than that. Great program as long as you don't overdo it.
