Rapture vst, help!
Even though Rapture(cakewalk), both the dll and the exe. files are located in Reaper, for some reason they will not load and if left online will crash Reaper.
I'm trying to remix a complicated song and need to use Rapture in several places.
Very frustrating.
Has anyone else had trouble with Rapture in Windows 10, although I'm running it as if it were in windows 7(pack 2)

It's only the .dll REAPER needs - the exe is a standalone, afaik.
Having said that, I checked and have both these files in my VST folder for years with no problems.
What location do you have the dll and exe files stored at?
_
(I'm on Windows7 so I can't help with Windows10 - but I have Rapture installed and it's working fine).

Thanks for answering Visco!
The location is: M:\REAPER\Plugins\Rapture

Your post count on this forum suggests that you have a lot of experience, so please forgive me if this is a dumb question. Is that a path that Reaper created automatically when you ran the Reaper install or did you create that path yourself?

No, I created that path to simplify things.
In fact I'm going to tidy up a lot more when I have time. When I first started out in Reaper I didn't have a clue and so ended up with a bit of a mess.
Its always good to simplify and keep things orderly.

This has really got me puzzled.
Even though Rapture is in the Reaper folder when I rescan it doesn't show up. It doesn't show up in the vst fx list either. Its as if it has just been edited out.
Am I doing something stupid?(Wouldn't be the first time)

How about trying to isolate the Rapture plugin?
You could try removing it from the current location temporarily - create a new top level folder ... say M:\Rapture. Cut it from the current location ( so Reaper doesn't try to access it ) and paste it into the new folder ... point Reaper to the new folder.
_
(Incidentally, does the Rapture standalone work for you? Have you tried double-clicking on the .exe? It should open Rapture as a standalone. Not that it's necessarily connected to your current problem).
_
p.s. - the .exe shouldn't really be in with the .dll.
But like I said, mine's is and doesn't cause problems.
I installed Rapture a long time ago, and I'm guessing that Cakewalk installer puts the exe and the dll in the same location.
If you try the above and the problem persists, it might be worth separating the exe and dll. Just to simplify troubleshooting, in case there's any weird conflict.

Not sure why it's in reaper/plugins, that's not for VST's but for reapers own plugins, it should be installed in a dedicated VST directory that reaper's VST scan path points to no?

I was wondering the same - but I assumed it was just how Sambo Rouge had named his custom VST folder.
I actually wrote a post to say what you just said, karbo ... then deleted it
... that is, that 3rd party VSTs shouldn't be placed in the REAPER folder alongside REAPER's native plugins.
_
Instead I recommended removing Rapture and placing it in a new folder, as above, to see if it sorted the Rapture problem.
But yeah IF Sambo Rouge has his 3rd party plugins alongside native REAPER ones, then a new folder should be created, and all 3rd party plugins should be moved to the new folder.
That's my understanding anyway - and it's the recommended way, as far as I'm aware.

... where are your other VST(i) located?
Has Rapture ever worked in Reaper on this system?

Its a real dogs breakfast. They are all over === but they all scan and as I said I intend to do some serious house cleaning this year.
In answer to your other question. Yes, Rapture has worked for years. This seems to have started a few months back but I have only now had time to turn my attention to it.
I can no longer open a standalone version of Rapture. This may not be significant.

But it could also be that the location of the Rapture "dependencies" (I'm not an expert!) could be missing or corrupted.
Gimme a minute and I'll put my rollup down and fire up my DAW pc.
I'll check the location of the Rapture "official" folder, and what's in there.
Then you can check that you have all the other "stuff" required.

I have a list of all the files I can find relating to Rapture on my PC.
First - did you try removing the Rapture folder (the .dll and the .exe) from it's current location and placing it in a new custom folder?
(And pointing Reaper to it?)
How did that go?

This is driving me crazy.
I created a folder called M:\Program Files\Rapture and put the dll in it.
I pointed Reaper at it --- nothing. I then put the .exe file in along with it(I know, totally useless, but I thought I'd try anything)----nothing.
So if the dll exists and Reaper knows where it is --- wtf is going on?
Maybe I'm being thick.
I'll get back to it got to go out now for awhile, I'll get back to you.

Just pulling at straws here, but is your Rapture version dependent on having Sonar installed?

Why M:\Program Files ?
Just M:\Rapture ... or EVEN BETTER ... M:\VST64
because you're going to be needing a default folder for all of your 64bit VSTs and VSTis.
_
If all else fails, you can re-install Rapture from your Cakewalk account.
(There's an uninstaller in the original Rapture Program Files folder).
IF it comes to that - then the last version was 1.2 (afaik)
HOWEVER ... (dear god of computer chaos) ... afaik 1.2 is only an updater app ... and you need 1.1 installed first.
BUT ... do not install version 1.0 ... according to Cakewalk the file structure changed in 1.1 to accommodate new Windows OS rules.

Computers, eh?

Cos I'm a computer moron
Anyhow, that really doesn't explain why its not scanning it does it?
Anyway Visco, I'll follow your suggestions to simplify everything.
Many thanks for your help, I'll let you know how it turns out.
Regards
SR

I'm in the same boat, that man.
I came late to computers - Sony Vegas8 was my first experience.
After weeks of still-not-getting-it, I nearly collapsed and wept.
It's been slightly easier since.

I can only make a guess at what's happened.
Here goes - I think the .dll and (and .exe?) need to link to the other associated files in order to open correctly.
I'm guessing that link has been broken.
Either that or there's corrupted files.
Don't despair -all of this is fixable.
Start off with a sensible regime for structuring yer folders.
It has been known for VSTs to play up if they're buried inside too many sub-folders.

Well, I got rid of duplicate places of Rapture and now have it where its supposed to be
I also ran cc cleaner to find corrupted .dll's and sure enough Rapture showed up.
I'm out of my depth now and don't know how to "re-establish" a link or attribute.
Having looked at properties of the .dll for Rapture, all the bits seem to be there.
Properties for the .exe file also appears OK.
It would be easier to get another installation from Cakewalk, but since they have been taken over, my old account disappeared and I had to start a new one, and --- you guessed it, no record of previous products that I bought. So the simplest thing really without the aggro of contacting customer service and waiting for several weeks would be to fix the installation that I have --- but how to do it?
Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
Cheers,
SR

Hi Sambo-
Have you tried accessing your Cakewalk products via https://www.cakewalk.com/My-Account/Products? Rapture & everything else I purchased from them is listed there & seems available for download.
Good luck!

[QUOTE=Susan G;2076498]Hi Sambo-
Have you tried accessing your Cakewalk products via [url]https://www.cakewalk.com/My-Account/Products?
Yes, Susan, but since I had a different email account back then, when I recently changed to a new email address, all my products disappeared. Apparently you can only migrate products to another email account with their permission. I tried to contact them but they say their email contact address is "under construction".
I even tried uploading my registration codes but the message box informed me that the product belonged to another user --- which happens to be me!
I guess the new owners are still having teething pains--- frustrating for me.

Thanks to Viscofisy the problem is now solved(almost). The rest is up to Cakewalk when I can finally reach them.
Many thanks for the input.

Hey Sambo, I'm also from CW and use all the available vst's from there in Reaper with no issues. I left my CW installation all intact and Reaper picks up the vsts from the CW locations...wherever those are. I honestly don't know because I didn't change anything, mostly so I could switch between the two DAWs with ease.
So, you might try reinstalling your CW programs/vsts/libraries in default locations and then rescan plugins with reaper...point to the correct file paths if needed.
