Default Strange dialog with Faderport XT

Hi there!

Never in my life have I seen this before in Reaper!(see picture)
The Faderport is working, the fader moves in mixer
until I reconnect.

The real problem is that there are NO WAY to close
this window. No X, no button...
I have tried to reconnect the Faderport - no change.

Cant even close down Reaper.

My system is W10, Reaper 5.70.

Just a sanity check, you do have FaderPort enabled in control surfaces and completely disabled in MIDI devices correct?

Yes.

But in control surfaces I have MIDI Input/Output: Faderport....

Shouldn't I?

Another dialog is showing up often also.

REAPER Control Surface Error
Control Surface: Error opening MIDI inputs

The good thing is that this dialog I can close
by just clicking OK.

The other dialog makes Reaper uncloseable,
have to restart my computer to close Reaper.

That's correct and you can set those two, just wanted to make sure all under "MIDI Devices" in Reaper prefs for Faderport is disabled because being enabled there may conflict with the other.

I've never seen that error though.

That means it can't communicate with the FP and will stay that way most likely until reinitialized from the ground up...

Close reaper, unplug the USB cable to the FP, plug it back in, launch reaper, still busted?

Oboy do I love Microsoft(NOT!)?

It turns out that the latest update mashed up the driver for my
midiinterface, Windows telling me that my interface cant run on
USB 3 and later that there is no driver for midiinterface. After
an hour (at least) of working with it the midiinterface got back
- with same driver as before and now works again!

I dont know - maybe this turned my Faderport crazy?
Havn't seen the message again - hope I will never see it again!

Thanks for the support and Merry Christmas!
