I believe I am done with Reaper (keeps on stopping), Hi Cakewalk [PROBLEM SOLVED!]
Every since the last two updates, I am unable to play or record without the Reaper DAW stooping by it self, after only few seconds of playing time. This problem isn't happening with Cakewalk or Sonar LE. I like Reaper because of it flexibility, but what is it good for when you cannot use it? Cakewalk will become my default DAW.

I'm not seeing that - I have reaper on three totally different PC's with no issues XP, Win7 and Win10. What hardware and OS do you have? BTW _ I'm in VA so if you want I might be able to help out - my web sites with contact info:

Why not just go back to the last version that worked?

Thanks, I will try doing it. But prior to doing it, do I have to uninstall it first? I have 2 audio interfaces, the second one is UR22. And Reaper is still behaving the same way with that interface too.

No need to uninstall, but you might prefer to make a portable install into another directory, just to make sure that it's not something in your configuration files.

You guys are awesome, I reinstalled ASIO4ALL and my audio interface driver, so fare, it's working quite well. No drop out issue yet.
Thanks you all for intervening.

Could easily have been a Windows update which broke things.
Glad it's fixed. Remember though, a portable install is always a good thing to try anyway as you have a clean Reaper install to work from.

No doubt about, it was the Windows update that caused all these problems. So, as for now, I am sticking with Reaper.

Glad to hear REAPER didn't get the blame for something that wasn't its fault.
Regarding drivers, I've found that WASAPI these days is fine. A4ALL was very useful for a while, but the game's changed. An ASIO driver perfectly tailored to your specific audio interface probably has the edge over both though.

Soooo true here … (2) Win10 Pro Desktop DAWs, and primary runs very well with Saffire Pro 14 / ASIO, secondary uses ASUS MB audio and WASAPI is preferred over A4All.
Was only recently able to 'escape' from Win10 Pro Insider Preview and now on latest stable version. Some of those Updates created havoc …
Glad OP is sorted !!

ASIO4ALL is know to be the source of a huge count of problems. (Of course it is known to wok fine other instances.)

Do you know any NATIVE (!) WASAPI hardware driver ? (Not using the old style Windows Audio driver interface Win10 silently provides as well.)

Hi guys, thanks for all your supports. I think I've fixed the problem, my Akai MPK49 was stopping Reaper, either during playback or during recording. So, once I disconnected it from my computer, Reaper started working flawlessly as before.

I'd love to know how it's doing that.
Is it stopping but looking like it's still in play mode (like some form of crash), or is it behaving like someone hit the stop button normally?
Midi mapping problem?
And, what's the point of declaring that you're moving to another DAW before you've even asked for help? Bait people into responding?

WASAPI is native Windows audio driver, not a 3rd party driver protocol like ASIO. It is called Windows Audio sometimes as well (in fact WASAPI means Windows Audio Session API). It's superseding MME, WDM and DirectX.

I understand that stuff new to WASAPI (such as source audio stream aggregation) is only provided with hardware that comes with drivers that use the (new/native) WASAPI hardware driver API, but not for those that use the (also provided, legacy) traditional Windows audio hardware API specification (i.e. MME, WDM and DirectX, as you pointed out).
Hence I reckon that hardware devices that come with windows driver(s) would be dedicatedly advertised to provide WASAPI compatibility, in case they do.
And this is what I did not see up till now (maybe due to not looking closely enough.)

I am not exactly sure that a hardware device MUST support WASAPI. It works the other way around: WASAPI is just means for the OS to connect to an audio device endpoint. Nothing else. It won't have latency as low as ASI - this is the reason why an audio interface needs to come with its own ASIO drivers, they aren't built into the OS for that very reason - but it can support whatever audio device can be enumerated (provided the audio software you're using supports WASAPI protocol). If I'm understanding things correctly.
Also as far as I know, there's still no audio device aggregation in W10...

In fact I never understood the need for such drama queen titles, if you're done with Reaper then why post here. If you have a problem then just put the description of problem in title.

Good idea. The problem was solved. It was just the frustration that made me put that title down.

So to decide this, we need to wait until some day aggregation will available either by Microsoft updating the WASAPI Subsystem to support this even for "legacy" hardware drivers, or by some hardware manufacturer comes up with a "decent" WASAPI driver enabling this, or even until both is necessarily needs to happen....
