sorry to hear about that neo69hk. I've got their 2i4 and have only had goodtimes.

What happens? is a random clip now and then or is it continual?

edit: ahhh I check out the vid first

Just remember to open the window before you throw it :-)

Personally I have better experience with Presonus drivers than Focusrite drivers, but I have not used their latest models.

from your youtube vid, it is flicking on as green. It's clipping when it goes red.

Maybe you might need a new guitar lead as well.

Is this clipping for sure? Aren't those pops ASIO buffer underruns? How does it sound with larger buffer?

Try latency mon first, then wait until I am below the window until you throw.
And get yourself a dedicated guitar preamp, do not rely on the hiz inputs, sth like a cheap line 6....

And regret buying the laptop, not the focus rite.

My 2i4 quit the clipping thing (I also had this problem) after I reset the reaper configuration. I don't know more, just that it seemed to help me.

If you are going to throw it out of the window please put it in a box and send it to me LOL I will pay postage, I have one that works perfectly but a spare will always be handy.

Seriously something is obviously wrong somewhere and you shouldn't be having your problems. Contact Focusrite support, check their FAQ's and hopefully their technical rep will jump in on this thread to give you some pointers.

To be honest I think your header is a bit over the top considering the problem may not be the Focusrite. In any case good luck and lets hope the problem soon gets resolved.

neo69hk:
1-In your video, the scarlett don't clip: the light is green around the button. clipping is red.
2-If you use the Focusrite driver (which is the best way), did you try changing the input data in the scarlett mix control. here you find input : line or instrument, and an attenuator pad.

I don't have ANY interface right now, so just mail it to me.

Seems like a few Focusrite owners on this site are having issues.

Ok. My mistake.
I own a 6i6, that works with a "scarlett control" software, and I thought it was the same for the 2i4.
Sorry for my false good idea.

I would try to repeat that without an electric guitar and instead use a good dynamic microphone to test for clipping. It could be that you have hot pickups, or even Guitar Rig is doing the clipping. If you don't have a microphone, try rolling off the guitar's volume a bit and use a basic patch to make sure you don't have any clipping in the chain before it gets to the Focusrite. If it still persists, open the Focusrite control software and make sure you have all the input levels at reasonable levels. FWIW, I have the 6i6 and it is rock solid.

My 2i2 clips when I go direct with guitar, it's not a problem with the interface, but with me for not getting one with a signal pad.

A lot of the lower range interfaces are in the same boat.

Easy fix, use a DI with a signal pad.

I like my 2i2.

This. That noise is not clipping. Run Latency Mon http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon and see what that reports, and if OK then adjust your buffer sizes.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop and its solid as a rock. Be sure to turn off Wi-fi on your laptop when working with audio.

Run this diagnostic on your computer and post the results, see here:

I see you're running Guitar Rig.
That itself can be a resource hog.
How much RAM do you have?
To me it sounds like your buffer settings are off somewhere.

I have an 8i6. No problems.

There is not enough information given to even begin to trouble shoot the problem. Why is the user playing through an oddball guitar cable? How is Guitar Rig set? What are the basic computer specs? How are the drivers set? Etc.

Plenty of people seem to have no problem with the Scarlett interfaces.

It is curious that assorted people are flocking to the Reaper forum to abstractly complain about Focusrite devices...?

the focusrite guy that lurks in this forum said once that the 2i2 has less headroom than all the other scarlett product... and he recommended the 2i4 to record guitar...

maybe that's what is happenning here!

anyway... i'm totaly satisfied with my 18i20

He's too busy re-taping his guitar lead back together.
