or maybe auto-clear search box right after the insertion when the "keep quick adder open" is enabled ?
and also make it with a checkbox to enable or disable it for the "auto-clear search box after insertion"

that sounds like a pretty straight forward idea I like that
especially if the function can perform which slot to insert based on the mouse pos!!!

I once had the idea to try to come up with a tool for plugin management or so like FX console by Videocopilot, but I gave up for the simplest task (back then I did not even work with Reaper and thought about coding a complete external tool or so, but I gave up. I am new with Reaper since a few weeks and it's still blowing my mind!).
Now I found this thread and I am totally happy to see that someone came up with something nearly like the thing I had in mind. Here are some thoughts, what I also had in mind for my tool and maybe it's worth a thought for this script as well??
1. An option to give entries a tag, which is searchable as well (to me it would even be okay if this would be more "hacky" and if we had to edit an aditional textfile or so).
2. An option to have an audio preview (either on hover/selection or on a special key or so); like the ReaLauncher it could be handled by searching for a .wav or .mp3 next to the template file or so; just an idea.
3. Drag&Drop could be handy in some situations, but not that mandatory, tbh.
4. Like in the Fast FX script by n0ne, it would be cool to have an option to order non-favorites by "mostly used" or so. Or recently used.
5. An individual white- or blacklist would be nice. (E.g. I mainly use VST3 and only some VST2, but when searching a plugin I get a lot of VST2 plugins as well, I never use)
Thanks for sharing this script. I'll try to use it in the next time to see how it feels!
Edit:
Just found out that you can move favorites also with Alt + Up/Down - so without the Shift-Key. Is this intended?
Edit 2:
Uninstalled plugins will stay in the Quick Adder DB, even after forcing a DB refresh (at least I had it with Fabfilter).

Good idea! I like it, and that's how it'll be done.

Not yet, but it's planned.

Agree, but currently not possible since there's no API to do that.

Tagging is planned but it's a pretty big one. How soon it becomes a reality will depend on the spare time I further invest in the script, which is obviously affected by users' contributions.

Already possible using the REAPER FX browser convention. Simply rename unwanted plugins and put "#" as the first character. When you're done refresh QA2 database.

Ah yes, just as Shift+Up/Down without Alt. That's an oversight and will be fixed in the next update. Thanks.

Uninstalled plugins are not automatically removed from the reaper-vstplugins64.ini that QA2 rely on. To remedy the inconsistency, simply perform "Clear cache/re-scan" in REAPER Preferences --> Plug-ins --> VST.

Cool, looking forward to it. I am quite open to donate, if I like something. Good work should be honored anyway. ... for now I will look how the project is going and how it will fit to my workflow first - I think you understand.

How does this behave in Reaper, when installing new versions of the plugins? It's about Meldaproduction plugins and there are 111 plugins included. I install the VST2 versions as well, since I am a beta tester and sometimes have to test the VST2 version as well, but using the VST3 mainly in my workflow. I disabled the VST2 by filtering them out via the plugin options "Only show FX matching filtering string". I can do the "#-trick", as long as I do not have to do it again everytime I install a newer version of all plugins (happens quite often as a beta tester).
Thanks for the tip, by the way!

I don't recall what REAPER does to renamed names once the plugins are updated, but renaming hundreds of plugins even once is not an optimal thing to do. The # prefix exclusion is rather meant for single plugins, not whole groups.
I will make the script follow the "Only show FX matching filter string" rules. Stay tuned.

v2.08 is out!
What's new:
+ option to clear the search box after FX/template insertion
+ put VSTi/AUi on a new named/armed/monitored track when no tracks are selected
+ respect FX filter string rules in REAPER Preferences --> Plug-ins ( video)
+ ESC closes Quick Adder when the search box is empty
# constrain favorites reordering to Alt + Shift + Up/Down only
# improved "FX not found" warning
# updated help file

Thanks for the update. This one:

does not work 100%. I want to ignore all VST2 Meldaproduction plugins with (this filtering works like intended when opening the Reaper FX insert window!):
Code:
NOT ( MeldaProduction VST: ) AND NOT ( MeldaProduction VSTi: )
Unfortunately it ignores almost all VST2s this way, except WIVI ... this is quite odd.
.. I also already did a "Clear cache and rescan" action and in the plugin a "Force refresh" and I also restarted Reaper.
Any clue what's going on?

Hi ! Thx for the hard wrk !
I was trying to filter out all the "mono" plugin
by adding :
didn't wrk, can u demonstrate how to filter the mono plugins in this case ?
I also tried :
Code:
NOT ( ^VST "(waves)" )
to filter the waves plugin, not wrking.

Try not putting AND between exceptions, but rather use this string:
Code:
NOT ( MeldaProduction VST: ) NOT ( MeldaProduction VSTi: )
Let me know how it goes.

For one word exclusion this should be enough:
EDIT: here's a video of Kenny explaining basic syntax with examples.

Hey you both, this did the trick:
Code:
NOT ( MeldaProduction VST: ) NOT ( MeldaProduction VSTi: )
Thank you for explaining and again: thanks for updating and improving. <3
Edit:
I just donated a bit, by the way, since I am happy that you are that active with this project. It was not really much, I fear, but I'll try my best in these times, financially spoken.

Thank you Neutronic for the script.
I wonder if it could support selection of text with mouse cursor for quick amends of typos in the search field.

Neutronic (or anyone else), is there a quick way to add FX to a new track at the bottom of my project? Example: I want to quickly create a Reverb FX track as a new track in my project. Ideally I'd like to locate it in Quick Adder, and with no track selected have it automatically insert the FX onto a new track like it does with instrument tracks. Or maybe pop up a model window that says: add to new track Y/N?
Sorry if this already does that and I just haven't figured it out yet.

You could make a custom action that selects the last track, makes a new track and then runs the quick add

Currently, when there are no tracks selected and one adds an FX, they get a prompt to select tracks to put the FX on. But I will add 3 options for this type of scenario: the existing one, the one you proposed plus "do nothing". Inserting VSTi/AUi will obey the rules as well.

Excellent, thanks! This will be a nice workflow booster to me. Not being able to just drag and drop FX onto an empty part of the TCP to create a new track+fx has been something I miss from my Studio one days. Having Quick Adder do it will be the next best thing!

v2.10 is up!
What's new:
+ drag and drop support
+ dropping an effect on empty TCP/MCP automatically
creates a named track with the effect on it
+ options for "no track selected" scenario
+ ability to pin Quick Adder
+ place text box carriage with mouse cursor
NOTE: some new functionality requires SWS and/or JS APIs.
Drag and dropping also supports regular QA2 modifiers, e.g. holding shift while adding an FX will insert it as an input effect.

Amazing work Neutronic!
I suspect that if Cockos was Apple, and Steve Jobs was still alive, you would have been bought and QucikAdder would have been added to iTunes by now.
Was just about to download your update to give it a whirl, when I accidentally opened QucikAdder and typed ReaPack.... Have you considered adding Actions to the list of search results? That would be pretty empowering.
Thanks!

Hi Neutronic !
thx for the script.
Donation has been sent !
one question,
since the pin feature can b added on QA2 window,
is it possible to make the plugins inserted by this Script get pinned as default so they wont disappear when I clicked on mixer window ?
cuz if I didnt pin the fx, it could b fall back to the TCP layer if I clicked anywhere on mcp to make other tweaks.
this behavior has been bugging me for awhile...
I'll be super glad if it can be solved.

Thank you very much! As of the request, it would be useful indeed but there's no API to support it. Can't promise anything, but I'll see if there is a good indirect way to do that.

Initially I had no plans for the thing, but enough people have asked me about this that I am contemplating it now.

No worries, if I added that it would be optional. Wouldn't want to overcrowd the place for those who like the script as it is now.

Finally got a chance to use it. It's terrific. This is going to be a script I use constantly. So much more efficient than Reaper's current methods. Really good stuff, thanks!
If I could add one small piece of additional feedback: there's no visual feedback that you're dragging and dropping. Not sure if you could do something to change the mouse cursor (like a small hand) just to provide a visual cue that says "hey, you're currently dragging." Not sure if that's possible though and it's really such a small thing.
Thanks again. This will be used daily here.

Thanks for the feedback! It is actually already implemented (see GIF), you just need to have the JS API extension installed on your machine. Please search ReaPack for it and restart REAPER after installation.
And I'm really glad to hear the script is that helpful to you.

Since updating to the new version, it only seems to recognise track templates and the the video processor JS.

hmm this is strange, since nothing has changed in this version in regards of plugin scanning.
Are you sure the previous v2.08 worked fine? It had the following change: respect FX filter string rules in REAPER Preferences --> Plug-ins.
If you didn't install that version but have the filter string set to anything non-default, please copy/paste it here.
