Default media explorer not reading ID3 tags for m4a or aiff files on macOS

when using the media explorer I have found it is not reading ID3 tags for m4a or aiff files on macOS.

I have tried a number of variations with tags on these files to get them to correctly display tags, including manually writing and saving tags within reaper itself, yet they do not appear to stick on reload.

Presently on an M1 arm macOS, and have observed this behaviour over the past year or so.....

anyone else??

thanks

ID3 tags embedded in .aif files should work, I just tested this. If you have a file with tags that REAPER is not displaying, can you post it or link to it?

Metadata for mp4/m4a is a mess in general. REAPER may or may not (but probably won't) read metadata depending on which encoder or decoder is used, and some decoders can't read metadata that is written by other encoders.

thanks for confirming that m4a is known to be problematic with tags, and I was probably mistaken regarding the aif files (working tags would be a cherry the cake for some projects, yet not something I spend time trying to work around so far).

A frustrating things is that I can write tags into M4a files using the media explorer, yet they vanish after restart/reload.

I make a radio program each week using reaper, and by the time I have completed it, it's usually getting light out, and trying to cross reference and find the various bits of (intermixed) music actually in the timeline for a broadcast track listing is simply beyond me by that point..... the media explorer would be perfect if only it worked...
Perhaps one day when I grow up ill have a production team to sort the details?
