XLR-TRS or TRS-TRS?
Hi , i got a presonus audiobox 22vsl audio interface and 2 krk rockit 5 monitors. My audio interface has 2 balanced trs outputs, but my monitors has both balanced xlr AND trs inputs.
So what is my best bet? TRS-XLR or TRS-TRS?
Thanks

Both connections are balanced, so it shouldn't make much difference.

Sonically no difference, but i'd go for the xlr option because they're extendable if needed.

Good point, you can always extend with mic leads.

Like everyone else says, it doesn't matter. I have XLR->TRS going out of interface.

It CAN matter, since XLR gives a lower resistance, better shielded and more reliable connection, just saying.

also XLR usually makes less noise when you unplug/plug it

Also.. XLR connectors "Lock" into place providing a more robust connection. However, technicaly they are identical balanced line connections. The impedance of the connector is of little importance really. You can also extend TRS with an adapter and cable if you wish, cables are a bit cheaper too, but its horses for courses. XLR is best, TRS is cheaper...

Good point for active monitor lines where connections might be made/broken while powered up.
You can actually create a momentary short-circuit when plugging 1/4" A plugs in, and signal lines get grounded and then connected to their line, causing all sorts of popping and bangs at high gain. XLR in theory connect at the same time (or on some, ground first), and the pins only ever connect to their corresponding connections, not others.

Good point on the plug-in behaviour.
TRS to XLR cables and adapters are available everywhere, so XLR is the safer choice. Come to think of it, most monitors I've ever seen use XLR inputs.

Does cable brand mean anything any more? Recommend some good ones?

I use Canford FST for interconnects and adapter cables, Canford starquad for mic cables and Neutrik connectors. All field repairable or replaceable, all in stock.
I use RS 25 pin D connector shells with crimp-pins for the 8-way analogue Tascam and PT stuff.
