maybe i am telling non sense, but maybe there could be an option to reaper create a background/ transparent VCA on the sends so that the dry / wet ratio don't get lost!?

They don't get lost using VCA, they get lost using folders with sends on the children. If you're asking for that on folders, the answer is "use VCA for that."

that is what i was trying to say/ment , .. if the sends dry/wet ratio on the children of the folder gets lost , .. maybe reaper could do something like a "background/transparent" VCA so they don't get lost!

That would not be a good idea.

without a justification your answer feels empty to me. Do you mind telling why?

It's a super old and common request which was basically responded to in the form of VCA. End of story.

Because folders are not meant to adjust the send levels of the children. They just sum tracks coming into it. That's their function. Want to adjust the sends of the children tracks? The answer already exists.

i'd like an action "create VCAs to sends" or an option "create automatically VCA on sends" . . something like that. Might be stupid .. i hate to create vca everytime in order to keep dry / wet ratio . dealing with sends in reaper already quite boring (because of lack something like this: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=206185)... plus having to create VCAs everytime... Boring ++

There's a script made by Sexan which makes a VCA for track selection. Combine that with an action that creates a folder from selected tracks and that's it.

by your words seems simple! can you combine them and post it here?
so i guess what i am asking: "would not be a good idea" or is an "End of story" is not really true.

Yes, as in changing the behavior of folders in Reaper would indeed be a bad idea and as such since VCAs are implemented it's end of story, but if you want to have your own custom behavior, by all means use scripts and custom actions.

Feel free to do it yourself, I need to get back to the rest of my day

1) you are free to proove it is very simple as you pray and what you doing is: "wash one's hands" : end of story

2) this is a request thread

3) i am always free to try by my self

4) not every user can do it

5) if something is useful for manny should be supported natively

Cockos doesn't change existing behavior without very good reasons, so I'd piu my hopes on an original idea in its own thread. Here, your ideas might get lost. It might also be a good idea for a script, so try presenting your problem in the JS/Reascript section as well. That has solved some of my problems. I even wrote some stuff myself to solve issues I had.

By the way, we're testing VCA stacking in the pre-release forum section btw. Should be fun.

If I understand deeb correctly, what he's asking is something like a checkbox in tracks routing menu:
- "Control send volume on child tracks" for a folder track, or
- "Apply folder's volume gain to this send" for a track send (like a VCA option that affects only the send volume of the slave)

This would solve the single biggest issue with folder tracks. Changing the volume on folder track would affect send volume of its child tracks (wet/dry ratio of reverb would be preserved).

A single checkbox could replace a more complex setup using VCAs (it's not really complex, but still, it's more work).

i think you got it! a check box seems even better then action or option.

An option to always enable that checkbox would be also nice then.

Guys, if you don't get why VCAs are important, please watch/read:

http://admiralbumblebee.com/music/20...dp-10-vca.html

It's in the context of Digital Performer, but it applies 100% to REAPER. Fader groups, folders, sends etc... are not replacements for VCAs and I explain why in a hopefully clear manner.

Please also see this thread: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=218417 and its ongoing testing.

VCAs are much more powerful, no question.

But I don't see a problem with also improving folders. If it would fix the biggest drawback of folders, why not.

Having said that, I think the folders discussion should really move to another thread as this threads was kind of hijacked.

To get back on topic, the VCA chaining OP was asking about is already being implemented. Thank you developers!
