Anyone with Logitech MX Master here? (FIXED)
I got one some time ago, but I'm not sure what's up with that horizontal wheel (which was the main reason I went for this mouse)...
First off, Reaper doesn't do anything on HorizWheel event... I have to go to Logitech Options and set the horizontal wheel to Zoom in/out so that it actually works in Reaper (of course that messes up shortcuts, since it requires ctrl+mousewheel in that case).
But most annoying is that it behaves extremely jerky in that case. It's like it's sending both horizontal wheel and regular wheel messages spuriously, so I get random H/V scrolling or zoom action (depending on the shortcut).
Not sure what's up with all that, but can anyone else that has the same mouse confirm these findings, or do I just have a bum mouse?

I have one and you know, I've never even used that scroller. I'm I long time Logitech performance mouse user going back to 2007 or so. I still have that one too and probably 3 or 4 others between work and various machines.

I had a chance to check this. The horizontal scroller by default scrolls the timeline horizontally here. I couldn't set it to zoom as it looks like I have an outdated version of the Logitech control panel that isn't aware of the newer horizontal scroller's existence. If I update it, I'll reply.

I'm using an MX Master with Reaper on a Mac.
I have it so the vertical wheel is zooming and the horizontal one ( by your thumb ) scrolls horizontally.
I had to use a program called SmoothScroll to stop the horizontal scroll from being to coarse or jerky however. I've tinkered with a lot of settings actually, but it does work pretty nice after all that.

W10 here, so if it's a Mac-only program, it's not gonna do much help over here.
Plus, seems like Logitech Options have smooth scrolling option too... Actually, I had that disabled. Let's try that enabled for a while...

Same issue here. Loving the MX Master but with the thumb wheel flaw. In my case, it seems that disabling "smooth scrolling" option gets better results, but not sure if problem fixed at all.
SmoothScroll app is mac only, and it doesn't fixed anything here.
It seems to be an internal issue of some programs. Many users are complaining about that with other aplications (i.e. MS PowerPoint, but not other Office programs).

Actually, ENABLING smooth scrolling seems to work better for Reaper, here. So I'm happy now.

It is indeed a brilliant mouse. However i am now looking at the G505 ( have small hands and this one looks like it might be a bit more managable for me)
it is a shame because i actually love the MX master now, but it is big

For what it's worth, I tried the MX Master 2S but I sent it back because it's not comfortable for me, despite my big-ish hands. I'm using an MX Anywhere 2S instead, which fits much better my grip style. At work I use a G900 and it's fantastic (but expensive). I also tried the MX Vertical but I hate it.

I had the first laser mouse for many years, their MX1000. I ditched that and went for the cheapo M185 and for me it is better at about 1/10th of the price!
The 185 is very light and small, tracks beautifully and no inertia. Three buttons and a wheel, I don't need anything else.
Only thing that is negative is having to replace the batteries once in a while. Replacing the lithium one in the MX1000 was fiddly though.

I'd say I have medium large hands, MX Master is a perfectly natural fit for it in my case.

M185 doesn't almost fill the hand like the MX units, it is more or less held by the fingers (fingers only hovering over the whole mouse) with the palm free.
Most of the time you just hold it with the edge of two fingers and the thumb, like it is barely there.

Yes that's how I use the MX Master mostly Just with thumb on the base and ring finger on the other side.

Interesting. The anywhere does look good. I mostly just like the wheel, it is awesome. Nice having the buttons mapped to 'zoom to sel' etc.
I am quite interested in the G505 gaming mouse - not to dissimilar to your work mouse. Have you any experience with that?
I am wondering how much smaller it is than the MX master. Plus it would be even more accurate than the master as it is wired. though i have found the MX very accurate. With a bit of configuration i was able to set it up really nicely.
Very impressive..just too bit for my hands and grip style.
All in all glad i gave Logitech a chance. I still like the apple mouse, but it is nowhere near accurate enough, specially for reaper - which has a lot of mouse interaction compared to most DAWs.
It has made me think a lot about my muse/keyboard setup.

No, sorry. Just the ones I mentioned, plus a couple of trackballs (whick I wouldn't recommend for Reaper).

I don't think wired/wireless makes a noticeable difference. The G900 and the MX Anywhere can be used wired as well, by the way.
To expand a little on my experience with the MX Master: I was attracted by the horizontal scrolling wheel, but it doesn't feel like a regular wheel at all, I found it too imprecise to be useful; and the mouse itself is too bulky and heavy for my taste.

Yeha that sounds identical to my experience. The side scroller is useless to me. I get really good precision when t comes to pointing, but it is just too bulky. On to the next!

G602 - best balance between multiple buttons and ease of use.

I can't seem to get the horizontal scroll working well. It seems choppy and slow.
I love the main scrol wheel!
It is amazing how few mice have side scrolling functionality!
I am going to end up trying a trackpad at this rate. Then maybe keep the MX alongside it (or swap for a g505..(despite disliking gamer mouse designs, as you do)

You can assign shortcuts for that to buttons.
There are many useful stuff you can do with the buttons. For example, you could assign alt+click to one of them and use it to remove inserts, items and what-not. Logitech gaming software is filled to brim with many useful utilities. From lua scripts to multi-key macros with timers etc...
Check it out man, you might find it something useful. If you do, I can share my configuration, just ping me ;D
I too would like to find good mouse with GOOD workable horizontal scroll wheel...up until now that hasn't been the case. So I got used to using middle click to move screen so it's all fine now. I like it more because you can move the screen in both direction with one click. Economy of movement <3

I'd love to have a good horizontal wheel too!, but the Master doesn't deliver for me. I find it way better to use the vertical one with a Shift or Alt modifier (my left hand is always on the keyboard anyway so it's no big deal).

I've used MX series since they came out in the mid-2000s, love them and even the one I purchased 13 or so years ago still works great. If they ever lose the flywheel though, I'm done as it's one of my favorite features.

Just to add current experience to this thread:
My G700 had to go after many years of work, what an awesome mouse it was.
Mine was the first gen, not the later G700s, the main difference? first gen optical system could sense if you are trying to go in a straight line and thus the cursor went in a perfect(!) straight line!
This was not a logitech software feature... it was part of the hardware optical controller in mouse it self.
I can't even explain in words how awesome that is... the second gen (700s) got a different optical subsystem and lost that ability, and no other mouse that I know of has that ability.
RIP old pal :-/
Ok, so I bought today the MX v3, it doesn't even have half the features my G700 had, and honestly the scroll wheel on the G700 felt and performed as good if not better then this Master Blaster's Wheel Of Fortune. the big surprise I learned after getting the MX, is that the scroll wheel doesn't have side clicks!!! that's a huge let down... I was sure... such an expensive mouse...
BUT... the horizontal scroll wheel works... and that's a HUGE feature :-)
Bind it to "View: Adjust horizontal scroll (midi cc relative)" and it works.
I agree with ED, I don't see my self going ever with a mouse without horizontal scroll wheel.
