New Tune - Where I Wanna Be
Here's my latest about a female serial killer who identifies, stalks, drugs, kills, and buries her prey in the back yard. Or maybe it's just an old fashion love song.

where ever you are
I like it. Nice work. I'm not qualified to comment on the mix - it sounds good to me and I love the ambiguity - she didn't really? did she?

You have a great sounding voice but you could use a little vocal tuning. Also try to develop a vibrato, you really have a beautiful voice.

Tod - thanks for listening and the comments. It's my daughter singing. My take on tuning is that if you have to tune everything then you need a better singer. I've intentionally decided not to tune the life out of this and go for more of an Annette Peacock feel given the subject matter.
Appreciate the comments and the listen.

Oh my Gosh that is really good. Your Daughter sounds great. Wonderful. Super good.
I love the bass. This song is very good. Set aside the dark nature of what might of happened. LOL.
My wife and I knew pretty quickly we liked each other a lot. Although were both very much alive. Well doesn't feel like it sometimes. LOL.
Can I ask you how you recorded the bass and the vocals? Like mics and what bass. What's in the chain. Good playing man.

41twin - Thanks for listening and your comments.
Vocal was recorded with a MXL V250 - direct into a Focusrite interface. Plugin is Nectar 3 for EQ and Compression and a bit of DeEssing. Vocal is then routed to Reverb provided by Convology XT and the True Stereo SP-990 Wood Room setting.
Bass is my Sire V9 with Rotosounds direct into the Focusrite with ReaEQ with just a bit of boost at 1.3k and then Waves RBass Mono set to 98Hz with just a touch of gain reduction (-.7).
I think I watched too many crime shows during COVID!!

Hi ts335 - This has a bit of an "Every Breath You Take" vibe - not the song itself, or even the style, but the way the subject matter is framed. A sweet-sounding song disguising a dark theme. That's a very compelling style of story-telling.
The mix sounds quite good to me. Having so much sonic space makes it easy to hear everything clearly, but things are balanced nicely.
I do wish the snare was less "Ezy Drummer"-sounding... meaning I'd prefer less room sound on it and more beef and thickness from the close mic. That soulful keys and bass seem to suggest a more intimate drum sound might match the vibe of the music more.
I feel like the mix is perhaps a little too clean and pristine sounding. To my ear, the song begs for a little "dirt under it's fingernails", but maybe put that down to personal taste.
Apart from that, I think the production is a little bare in places. The lull that happens at 2.22 until the (very cool) bass fill that intros the last verse gives me the impression that the song is "treading water" there. I wonder if editing out a some of bars there and creating a complete silence/stop before the bass fill might make it even more of an "event"?
One thing I think would be really cool is to have some harmonies and doubling of the vocal in strategic spots - particularly under the chorus melodies.
I prefer natural sounding vocals myself, so I completely understand your commitment to not tuning. However, vocal tuning doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing pursuit. I think if you could keep the overall lazy indie vibe and maybe nudge closer into tune just a couple of spots that really stand out as a little too flat, that would probably make the song eminently more listenable.
... or maybe it could mess it up all together! Haha
Overall, this is really cool - Really interesting melodies, and cool chords. I quite enjoyed it - thanks for sharing!

fHumble - Thanks for listening. I used MT Power Drums on this and agree on the snare. Maybe I'll go back and do a drum replacement on the snare.
I thought the break down after the bridge was a good point to pull back after she drugged him. Maybe a complete stop would be more dramatic.
I also considered some type of tape distortion on the overall mix but opted not to go that route. Something else to consider.
Food for thought.
Thanks again.
