Blockhead Daw looks amazing

I know Colugo from his amazing work in Reaktor and lately he is working to an upcoming Daw called Blockhead, which looks pretty wild for sound mangling.
I thought to share to anyone who wants to take a look. One of the things i liked is the vari-speed automation which I'd really love to have in Reaper too.

Here's a new video with the dev explaining some features. Never seen anything like that, and even though it has a long way to be completed, it already seems so unique for sound design, check it out.

This is mad. It already looks like a genius tool for sound design. It looks like extremely fun to play with. He is using it himself and have fun, he is bending code to his will. What a playfull program. The graphical feedback, brilliant designed. Just draw, drag, play, move. No words. Wow.

I subscribed to Colugo and tested blockhead yesterday.

It's really good and totally different than anything I've tried before, with some awesome ideas, like the buffer that's continuously recording anything in the background, and then you can choose whatever parts and drag in the timeline. You can create blocks within blocks or lanes for each track and a lot of other cool stuff.

The amazing thing regarding fx is that you can create blocks with effects, where the sound is being processed only at the length of this block, which could be moved, extended or copied somewhere else in the timeline. This is fucking genius, like imagine items that contain effects and process a sound with them only when the playhead is passing through those items. Super fast and fun to program different effect sequences on the timeline.

But for me the biggest selling point is the sound mangling features that it offers per item. This is like reinventing the wheel somehow, or maybe just thought of something that should have been done already.
Each item works like a sampler, or a granular sampler and you can tweak and automate every parameter on the audio it self. Imagine the grain size, the speed that playbacks the sample like in a granular sampler, the vari-speed pitch envelope, the transpose envelope where it transpose the pitch without altering the speed and a BUNCH of other parameters, are all at your fingerprints right on the item to mangle them.
I mean wow, these are some stuff never seen before in a Daw and in such a kick ass way, he really deserves all the best for the future and I'm eager to follow its development since I'm so curious and excited where this will go.

Also there's another feature the manipulators where I didn't try yet that much, but you can easily link item parameters and tweak them together on the timeline

Agreed, it's just one guy with crazy ideas and hope he gets more support from more people to continue doing this.

Depends on how serious he is about this long term really. Looking interesting so far.

If he can stick with it, even say after changes in employment status etc this could get really interesting. Lots of these solo projects get derailed for fairly obvious and understandable reasons.
