Default "Assertion failed: e- >time_stamp

Win7 x63 AMD quad, 4 gigs, reaper 3.4 ; Line6 XT Live, 3.72 Gearbox drivers

I had 4 vstis on one midi track. DSK B3, SQL8 91b, Crazy Diamonds,

1) I duplicated the track, in order to separate them and have discrete tracks;
2) I then deleted the instances on each track of the (now) redundant VSTis, then the screen seemed to redraw in monochrome-white, and Reaper froze.

The error:

Assertion failed: e- >timestamp==SampleClock(), file
C:\Borland\BCC55\se\se_sdk\SeModule_base.cpp, line 242

Reaper host 32 abnormal termination

/ and now it seems to have killed my ASIO?

You have 2 quite old SynthEdit plugins (known for strange interactions) on that track plus one that has a little tendency to crash as well. Then you duplicated the track, probably triggering the known multi-instance bug of the SE plugins. In other words, sounds like a quite safe recipe for trouble and that's why it probably happened. The crash is in one of the SE plugin's modules.

What do you mean by "killed ASIO"?

Meaning it disappeared from Reaper's settings, and wouldn't give me any I/O options, despite still working outside of Reaper.

So, would I have less problems if I ran the 32bit version?

Ahhhrghhh.

What is my solution if I wish to continue to use these "ancient" plugins that I like?

No. That's (most likely) mostly a problem with one of the SE plugins due to bugs in SE.

Running them "firewalled" in a separate or dedicated process (right-click the plugin in the FX browser to edit these properties once before loading it). They will probably still crash but are less prone to take Reaper down with them.
