Default 2 Studio Machines and 2 Keyboards - Possible to send/receive MIDI through XP Network?

I have my main keyboard on my Protools machine and I'd like to send it's MIDI signals through the network to my Reaper machine. Is this possible?

rtpMidi is either Win <-> Win or compatible to Apple's network Midi driver!

I tried this today and I can't figure out how to send the midi signal to the RTPMIDI program. Any tips there?

You could run reaper on BOTH machines and link them over the net with ReaStream -

Have you seen this: http://tobias-erichsen.de/rtpMIDI_configuration.html?
IIRC I had it set up in 5 or 10 minutes.

I did too but I didn't see anything on how to tell the midi keyboard to actually SEND to his program. That's the point where I'm stuck. Seems like good software though. Pretty impressive.

You simply choose the XYZrtpMidi channel as Midi output in the track i/o dialog (given that you've activated the rtpMidi channels in Reaper's preferences/Midi device window)!

Like I said - run Reaper on both. On the send machine, link the keyboard in as a MIDI input device to a track. In the fx for that track put a ReaStream and set that to "send" and give it the IP address of the receive machine, and arm the track for recording.

On the 2nd machine, run up REAPER, insert a track, and put the ReaStream in the FX chain and set that one ot "receive" and give it the IP of the sending machine.

Arm this track, and starting recording ... play your keyboard and the MIDI should flow into machine 1, track 1, into reastream, over your net to machine 2, and into the reastream of track 1. The MIDI should "drop out" of the bottom of the track 1 fx chain and onto the track!

I have done this over 100's of miles over 1 GB dedicated networks!

Rob

PS I also set up dummy control surfaces on each machine, used a midi loopback to get the output of the "control surface" and feed it to another track and the over reastream, to the other end, to another reastream, to loopback, into another track. Mirrored on each machine for sned and receive.

In this way move a fader on machine 1 and the same fader moves on machine 2 - and vice versa. Also had the audio reastreamed from machine 1 to machine 2. Thus 2 people could mix the SAME audio data separated by 100's of miles in real time.

Sounds like ReaStream actually works for you? In realtime??
When I try this, the signal's latency varies so badly, it's unusable. I've haven't heard one single success story with ReaStream so far, to be honest.
