Default Confusing mouse modifier categories

I don't know if I'm the only one who finds the mouse modifier section a little confusing at times.

Like what is the difference between "MIDI Editor" and "MIDI Piano Roll"? The former only has modifiers for Right Drag but they affect the same area as the modifiers in MIDI Piano Roll?

Same applies to "Track" and "Arrange View".

Am I missing something obvious that forces them to be in separate categories?

My suggestion is:

1. Consolidate the categories to minimize redundancy

2. Sort them in alphabetical order

I haven't tested it, but I would think, that the piano-roll is only for the piano-keys displayed in the midi-editor, while the other ones are for the whole midi-editor.

Nope, MIDI piano roll has left click, left drag and double click, i.e. all your regular modifiers for the MIDI editor.

MIDI editor only has right drag, but (to my knowledge) the right drag affects the same area as the above modifiers, e.g when doing a time selection or whatever.

AFAIK there are no modifiers for the piano key display.

Can you see how it's a bit confusing? At least it's not immediately obvious to me why they need to be in separate categories so I'm curious to hear the reasoning.

Ok, after having tested a bit I agree. Maybe it's internally somehow different between the two of them but at least the naming of piano-roll is a little misleading, as these mouse-modifiers also act when piano-roll is off.

However, the Piano-Roll modifiers also work in the notation-editor, where the Midi-Editor-modifier doesn't work in the notation-editor, so there's a difference here.

Though I agree, they should be consolidated and midi-editor-right-drag maybe expanded to the notation-editor as well to select multiple notes. That way, they work on all MIDI-Editor views the same way.

Fair enough, that kind of makes sense.

I still think they could be merged without causing any harm since the differences are so small (even more so with MIDI piano roll/MIDI editor).
