scroll wheel in fx window should scroll fx, not zoom track view
the scroll wheel in fx window should scroll fx, not zoom track view.
sometimes the effect or instrument is bigger than the docked fx window, and scrolling in the gray area next to the plugin should scroll that window, but instead the mouse wheel is changing the track view.
in this way, the scroll wheel could use some more cursor-awareness.
or maybe i should be more aware of an existing feature?

You do have "Mouse wheel targets: Window under cursor" set in the mouse properties?

yes.
did you try what im talking about?
i know there is a scroll bar to the right of the large gray area surrounding the plugins gui, but i want that window to behave just like a web page, when you scroll the wheel (and obviously not hovering over a fader) the fx window should scroll.
try it yourself and let me know?

Yes, I tried.
For me it neither scrolls the FX window, nor zooms the track view. I agree that it could/should scroll the FX window when the FX GUI does not fit, at least when "window under cursor" is the mouse wheel target.
EDIT: I see now you say docked fx window. Did not try that. I don't know if I have any FX that will fill my whole docker and more...

Yes. should be possible to scroll the fx-window.
It is possible in the fx-browser and fx-chain-window. Why not in the fx-window itself too?

it scrolls only if you hover over the scroll bar.
EDIT: no, it does not. the scroll wheel has no effect on the fx window when it is docked. nor does it affect the scroll bar.
docked vstis or effects often get cut off down there. it would be slicker if reaper behaved more like a web browser in this case. faster to get around on the various gui's.
example... i am using yellowtools independence free and the gui is kinda big, but i like to keep things docked. it takes less energy to move the mouse to empty space on the fx window and scroll up and down.
more, scroll wheeling in an fx window shouldnt be zooming the track view in and out (or do anything to the track view for that matter, the cursor is nowhere near the track view.)
just my two sense

have you noticed that when you roll the scroll wheel in the fx window, it changes the zoom in the track view? i mean, they are two different windows. why does scrolling in one window affect what zooms in a totally different window?

No, I can't get it do that here (3.102). When I roll the mouse wheel in the FX window, nothing happens; no scroll in the FX window, no scroll in the track view.

hm, funny. just tried it again, opened up an effect window (docked) , positioned my mouse pointer in the gray area to the right of an effect, scroll wheeled, and zooming occurs in the track view.
just to be double sure, i clicked the docked fx window to try focusing it, and rolled again... still the same, zooming happens in the track view.
v3.102

attention please:
favor request:
will somebody please dock their fx/vsti window and try using the scroll wheel in there?
it still doesnt work for me.
v 3.11
there is a scroll bar on the right of the docked fx window, but the scroll wheel does not affect it, even when mouseover.

3.11 here.
Docked VSTi GUI doesn't scroll when I scroll the wheel.
On the other hand, I have set Ctrl+scroll to do vertical zoom. And when I press Ctrl+scroll, it zooms all tracks.
It shouldn't. Tracks should be zoomed ONLY when the mouse is located in TCP! Not when in the MCP or Docker!

my problem is not that the scroll wheel is inconsistent, but that when i am focused on a docked vsti, the scrollwheel affects the track window.
my problem is that the scroll wheel doesnt know when it is hovering over a docked fx or vsti chain window.
try it, the scroll wheel wont even control the vertical scroll bar in a docked vsti or fx window. (v. 3.11)
i reposted this in a couple of the related threads, sorry if thats annoying Darkstar.

Do you mean in the right side pane where the FX are listed? It does scroll here? I have all the scroll wheel options at default. (I think?) Anyway...

bump
shouldn't the mouse scroll wheel control window scroll bars under the mouse pointer?
Shouldn't windows with scroll bars respond to a mouse scroll wheel the same way firefox, windows, osx or any other known window browser or program should? This should sit organizationally a separate tier than the editing tools, on a basic os gui level.
this is of course on the two conditions there is window focus, and that window has a scroll bar.

I agree, this can be really irritating on small screens. Mouse wheel should scroll fx window

i stupidly forgot i already mentioned this before, and i put it in the feature request section. i need to search before i post. well, since the devs havent taken much notice, i decided to call it my own invention anyways.
patent: mouse wheel operates scroll bars in DAW programs.

i guess most reaper users have huge screens and dont need to use the scroll wheel in their effects windows when they are docked.

i have made a discovery: The scroll wheel DOES behave properly in the routing matrix while docked. Give it a try! Shrink that little basterd down and move your scroll wheel and watch it work.

That's strange why would it work with matrix and not anything else!? I'll have to try that.
