Default Make default track colour different from default item colour?

Hi guys,

I'm trying to make my drum tracks one default colour (darker shade of blue), but am finding when that same colour applies to the media items, it's too hard to see the midi events in that item, even when it's big.

So I'd like the media items belonging to that track to be a lighter shade of blue--by default.

Anyone suggest a way I can do this--that is, how I can 'decouple' the track colour and the colour of the media items belonging to that track?

I think the only thing you can do is go to Preferences > Appearance > Peaks/Waveforms > Custom colors and set Tint media item background to Item color only.

That will allow you to set a custom colour for your media item different to your track colour.

Interesting--thanks for chiming in. I just checked that option out and see them, but they're greyed out, presumably because my chosen theme (Commala 5) overrides the options.

I'm wondering if there is an easy fix for this in the theme editor...

I'm sorry, my theme editing skills are limited and I have no idea why those items should be greyed out.

Hopefully someone else will be able to help.

cheers

Thanks--but would you mind giving me some more direction? I'm unsure what you're suggesting.

This a theming choice, so you'll need to do some basic theme tweaking if you want to keep using your existing theme. First you'll need to learn how to unpack a theme here.

You need to replace item_bg.png and item_bg_sel.png with those from a theme that lightens the media items the way you like, perhaps the default V5 theme.

Don't do this. For more on custom colouring and why pretty much everyone should leave tinttcp alone, read this.

Thanks a lot--much appreciated. This sounds a bit hairy, but I'll take a stab at it.

Will this option also "lighten" the MIDI notes in the Media Item?

No, the midi note colormap does those colours.

If you are using the V5 method, obviously the legacy tint controls in the user preferences won't have any effect on your theme
Tint strength maybe doesn't work but those options do

So to disable waveform tint and be able to modify it with "theme adjuster" I had to comment out tinttcp or play with its weird code that isn't explained anywhere. Commenting out its easier.
BTW is there some magic tinttcp code to tint only selected waveform ?

Im not sure if this is what you are looking for, but you can right click any item/take and hover Item and take colors > Set item to custom color. So if you have both midi and audio on the same track you can set different colors to them.
