Default Note preview levels

Hi All,

I've been using Reaper for a few months now so just finding my way around.

I'm looking to preview notes on the midi editor more quietly. I'm working on a really quiet string score and when I deselect notes by clicking out or move a note it nearly takes my head off.

Any ideas?

Cheers!

UPDATE: Just wanted to add that there are also distortions if I click on the piano roll during playback.

This may help:

Go to Preferences-Audio-Playback and "CC reset overrides". I have mine at "cc01=64", you may try to set it lower.

do you know that you can hear a note preview by clk on the piano keys? ...and that more to the left of the key gives less velocity and to the right more velocity?

doing that won't write in the note but will let you hear it
