Thanks. It makes sense to put that sort of thing in a "toolbox" rather than as an edit command. Just couldn't locate it.

Any way you can please change the Bulleted list to only have tabs for the separators (2 tabs for deeper). Word is playing hell on search and replace of bullets. Thanks ! A link to dl the file would be better to since it scrolls for like 85 pages. :-)

I'll definitely be able to improve upon the output. I was thinking of an html-file download that uses javascript to make a folding-tree structure, so you only have to look at the parts of the menus you want to see.

For now though, I've attached a doc that should help you par down the noise a bit. You'll notice that I kept the list-structure, but just adjusted the output to not display any bullets. I also condensed the line height and the font kerning. It's at 24 pages right now, but if you added a fourth column (which would require some text to wrap) or if you're willing to go down to a 7pt font, you'll be able to shrink it down to a truly manageable size.

Hi Mike,
I've added "Insert new track at end of Mixer" to the MCP Sends menu. I find it a nice ergonomic way of creating a new aux track with minimal fuss.

Even better would be a new option "Insert new track at end of Mixer and create send to this track" but that's probably outside of your powers (and besides, it's a mouthful! )

Hey Coachz,
Instead of using Word (which can destroy the sensitive formatting), I'd recommend a free program called Notepad++
It's an excellent, tab-based text/code editor with very powerful search and replace functions.

All the best,

Notepad++ removes any indentation along with the bullets. It's an amazing program though.

Remember that with the Splicer, you can keep these kinds of customization when you upgrade ReaMenus. Just add any new actions below a divider whose name is #protect-below or above a divider named #protect-above. You can see more about it on the Splicer page on the site.

No. But I will improve the output from the site with each subsequent update. If I can find the right code, the output will be a formatted pdf.

That will work ! Anything that I can dump to a dozen or so pages using duplex is fine. :-) thanks !!

With text though I could do a diff and see what menus got moved and added without having to look at every version. Text and PDF would be my pref if that's not hard.

Default DANGER! DANGER!

GAH! Found a dangerous problem!

!!! EVERY REAMENUS USER NEEDS TO BE AWARE OF THIS !!!

I had been wondering why tracks weren't being removed when I used the "Delete selected tracks" command in the TCP context menu. I had also wondered why items were mysteriously disappearing sometimes...

It turns out the "Delete selected tracks" command has been chosen incorrectly.
If an item is selected when this command is executed, the items will be deleted!

Mike, please take a look at this pronto. I'm just lucky I noticed things were going missing.

Gak! You're right. Because the item and track context menus can now be reached when the timeline or tcp/mcp is focused, I need to switch all of the actions from the general versions to the contextual ones.

I will do this tomorrow and post when it's been done.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, DAX!

My pleasure, Mike.
I wasn't one of Magix's (Samplitude) top beta testers for no reason

(BTW, it should be Action ID 40005)

Are you able to post a list of changes, please, so I can make them myself? I have configured my menus since using your web-based splicer and I fear I will lose my changes if I put it through the splicer again.

Cheers,
Dax.

There's no sane way for me to do that.

Actions will be replaced with the context specific, e.g.:
"Delete tracks/items/points"
-> "Delete tracks"
-> "Delete items"
-> "Delete points"

The only actions that will be changed are in the Clipboard submenu of Track context, Empty track context, Media item context, Envelope context, Envelope point context, Track menu, and Item menu...

Basically, all cut, copy, paste, and delete actions.

One good way for you to get the changes (have you really modified so far beyond the splicer's capability?) is to use Notepad++ to see the differences between your menuset export and mine. Then you can just modify the action numbers on those actions.

Expect the update around 3:30 EST.

Default Total noob, sorry...

Hello.

May I ask a (likely) silly question?

I'm still fairly new to Reaper, having jumped ship from a Cake-like DAW; but, do these Reamenus contain 100% of the original stock-Reaper menu options, just reordered and structured cleaner - or do they actually change what options are available in the menus and do not match the default options?

I ask because, I'm trying to find the best way to "learn" Reaper, and I see so many using Reamenus, I didn't want to maybe "not see" a certain option or feature that is present in the default menu layouts, that maybe was takn out for Reamenus' structure.

Thank you for the help.

Ben

Ben
ReaMenus uses about 99% of the same actions as are available on the default menus, though they are often organized into more sensible locations. The remaining 1% of actions are replaced with better versions from the SWS extension pack.

I assure you that (not every action but) every feature provided by REAPER and SWS are accounted for on the menus.

----

I keep my action window open at all times. Despite being the MenuMan, whenever I recognize a task that needs doing, I search for the action I want (or make a custom action), assign a keyboard shortcut to it, and never look back.

That, to me, is what it means to learn REAPER.

Thanks, I'll do that. Well, I'm not sure, I know I have added a few things of my own, plus I've modified the order or placement of several items in your menus.
Will the Splicer cope with that?

Unfortunately, no it willn't. I always intended to update the splicer to do handle more complex changes, but it's hard to justify the time it would take to do it, when what we really need is a way to make ReaMenus display as the "default menu" in Reaper's menu editor, so we could just drag changes over...

Hey Mike,
Hope you're well.

I've found something that's a bit strange and I'd like to change it, but it appears to be 'blocked'.

In the MCP and TCP context menus there is an item for Layout. To me, it doesn't make sense to have TCP layout options in the MCP and vise-versa. I wanted to remove them, but unfortunately they're not even listed.
Can you explain what's going on here and perhaps suggest a solution, please?

All the best,

Yeah, that list is automatically generated. I think you'll find the same "problem" on the default menu set. It is weird, but we're stuck with it.

---

Speaking of the menus, I'll be posting an update soon with a new "Freeze" submenu (yay!) (or should I merge Freeze/Render?). I was waiting for some more substantial action changes, but I haven't updated SWS in a while, so there very well might be. Expect my update in a week max. I also want to clean up the splicer with this update.

ya, i'm really in a grind, i'd like to update the reamenus, but my version is really quite old. pre reaper 4 old, by quite a bit, and i've modified alot of shit too.

it kind of sucks. i don't feel like spending a bunch of time fixing my menus either. so i just live without updating features.

i feel like i'm on my own now.

or maybe there's a way to be able to add actions by date? or groups of actions? new folders?

idk, i'd like to keep up to date somehow, but my menus are really becoming exactly how i want them bit by bit, and i don't want to start all over again.

There is a way to maintain certain kinds of changes using the ReaMenus Splicer. I'm not sure if you know...

On any menu, you can add actions and submenus at the very top or very bottom, so long as you include a divider separating your actions from ReaMenus proper. You have to give the separator a name: #protect-above for custom actions at the top of the menu and #protect below for actions at the bottom.

E.g.

custom action
custom submenu->
...custom action
...custom action
divider (named #protect-above)
REAMENUS WILL REPLACE THIS PART
.
.
.
.
.
divider (named #protect-below)
custom action
custom submenu->
...custom action
...custom action

---

You can also protect an entire menu by naming any top-level divider: #protect-menu.

Read more about how and do it here.

So if you want, just move your customizations to the top and bottom.

Yeah SoundAsleep, I'm in the same boat.

When I discovered the issue that prompted Mike to update ReaMenus to 4.03, I had also modified a lot of the menus.
This time, I made a text file list of every menu item I modified, in case I have to do this again. Like a personal change log.

I think there is a way for the Splicer to work. The process would be like this;
1) Load your current menus,
2) Tell it which ReaMenu version it's based on,
3) ReaSplicer comares the 2 files and makes a list of changes, which are then applied to the latest ReaMenu version.

I tired to do this manually with Beyond Compare, but the line order was different between 4.02 and 4.03, which made a direct, line-by-line comparison impossible. (The order was 1, 10, 11, 12..19, 2, 20, 21..29, 3, 30..39, etc instead of 1,2,3..10,11,12..99,100...)

This would be ideal! It only requires that I completely rewrite the splicer code (the reason being that right now, it pushes the limit of my host's memory limit and the only way to load and compare a third menuset would be if reamenus versions were stored in a database as objects--or better yet, as diffs...)

Unfortunately, near ReaMenus birth, in order for users with slow computers to be able to import/export large menu sets, Cockos optimized the code, making it so that items were all out of order... (Coincidentally, that was the first time I had to rewrite the Splicer from the ground up.)

Also, ideally the Splicer would be a reaper plugin, right? Something that allowed the flexibility of the Customize Menus... dialog, automatic updates, etc. Alas, as C++ is not my native language, I am not in a position to dedicate my time to that. If only there were someone else...

unfortunately, I had already moved way beyond that point, just as you were coming out with your splicer. but i also made more complex changes, than it looks like your splicer can handle.
