Default Kontakt 5 freezes REAPER and finally system

There are posts regarding this problem, I know, but they are a bit older.
So I ask if there is something new about it.
Problem here seems to be the >files< window. Wheel start turning and a bit later Kontakt cannot be stopped / closed.
W10, REAPER and KONTAKT latest versions.
I installed it anew right today. Didn't help.

Hmmm... recently upgraded my PC which has Win 10(64) and bought Kontakt 5.x. I've had no problems so far...

A couple of things to try:

- Are you on the latest, greatest version of Reaper?

- Have you tried running Kontakt on a portable install of Reaper, to try and narrow down the problem area?

Hi.

I might just be a Reaper configuration or plugin issue. If the problem still exists on the portable install then you have likely eliminated Reaper as the cause of your issue.

You will (obviously) need to add your Kontakt VST folder to the Preferences, VST path on the portable install so you can test Kontakt, but I suggest you don't let it scan any other non-Reaper VSTs, for now. If you are using a common VST folder, which includes the Kontakt VST, then you may need to jig some files around temporarily so you only load Kontakt and no other VSTs

You can use a USB drive, if you wish. Personally I just install it to a HDD folder, checking 'Portable install' obviously, (default is C:\REAPER)

Done. Problem still exists.
Was really a cool idea, I must say.

Now ... what to do? Earlier Kontakt version?

I attached my track template - is there something wrong with it?

I loaded your template, set up 8 instruments, responding to MIDI channels 1-8 and mapped to the various outputs in Kontakt you had set up.

No problem or crashes, I'm afraid :-(

I DLed it too blommberg, of course Kontakt is empty and there are no midi tracks.

For the heck of it, take all the tracks out of the folder track, then see what happens.

I have had something like this and been to the NI help but no solution, and this despite several kontakt and Reaper updates. I have reluctantly accepted that this is how it will work on my current system - win7 64 and Reaper 64.

Several things work for me:
I arm the track I have kontakt on and then delete or make changes
or I remove the track from Reaper and start over

One thing suggested by a member here was that somehow the focus of the software changes, whether it is Reaper, kontakt or windows and you get the hang or freeze in certain circumstances with certain hardware/software set ups. I did pass this on to NI but they seemed to ignore it.

I had about the same issues with reaktor 6, then i did a drive verifyer, and saw it was a sys from native that did the trouble

I dont recall the name of it when i wrote it above :-)

i ask native about the file first, but after waiting several days from an answer from them then they ask for more information i got tried of waiting and erased the file - NiWincdemu.sys, and in registry

It helpd for me, but you better do a drive verifyer and see

I don't think kontat is the problem. I've got the same with toontrack (ezplayer, ezkeys and Superior Drummer 2.0). I have to arm the track in order to get stability.

I see from your sig that you are running a notebook PC. Typically these are not wonderfully powerful so you might be hitting a PC resource limit.

Also what audio interface are you using?

- CPU is below 20%
- steinberg UR28m - but also without connection and using asio4all it is the same crash.

Kontakt really is the ONLY VSTi here that makes that crashes. I am sure Kontakt is the killer.
Tonight I'll check 32 bit on my small small small traveling notebook.

I had the same problem and fixed it by going into the preferences, finding the media section, and increasing the CPU/block size to something over 1000. I had lowered it for tracking/recording to reduce the latency.

I'm no expert and not a tech guy, but seems like Kontakt sometimes needs a lot of available CPU (e.g. Drummica), and increasing the block size helps solve some PC freezing issues. It did for me!

1000 crashes with >Bonjour< involved, an Apple Service.
I uninstalled it, but the commands recommended for the console (the black dos window) haben't worked.
Anyway, I test and report.

(Arming tracks did not work.)

I can not guide about Reaper-things, simply because im new to it :-) So how about an online antivirus scan, and drive verifier "Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable in Windows 10"

Have you tried running Kontakt as a dedicated process? Right click Kontakt in the FX browser and choose "Run as > Dedicated process". You might also want to try separate process if that doesn't work.

Add Kontakt to your antivirus exception list. This might decrease loading times considerably.

Does the crash happen when you have no sample libraries loaded?

At the moment Kontakt works well. Don't know why.
- I had deleted "Bonjour", this Apple Sevice, detected it as one reason by ...
- checked the >Ereignisanzeige<
- I started the stand-allone-version several times
- I switched off "files > view > show network drives, show removable drives, show foreign formats".

So I like to thanks to all of you, my helpers!

I know that this thread is about a year old, but I am thinking of running Drummic'a with Reaper, and wanted to ask you about using the programme in Reaper.

Are you still running Drummic'a without any problems?

gdvd\: for what its worth there are so many of us running Kontakt 5 (and lately 6) without any issues, I think you have an almost non-existent risk that Kontakt, Drummic`a and Reaper wont get along.

FWIW one of my many Kontakt instruments IS Drummic`a.

I have been getting this problem (reaper and kontakt go 'not responding' and I have to force quit), it happened first in reaper 5, and now in the latest reaper 602.

Thanks to discovering this forum thread, arming the kontakt track first has prevented the problem happening for me.

It hasn't ever happened in fl studio.
I don't know what causes it, but I was thinking it was something to do with screen resolutions.
