Default Automute - Can Chrome web audio be run through reaper - Protecting studio monitors

I can't count how many times I've clicked on something on Chrome and the playback/sound comes rocketing through my studio monitors potentially causing them harm.
Everything else on my mac has reasonable volume output...Reaper, iTunes...etc
But the chrome browser can have audio levels that are stupidly loud.
I don't always remember to turn down my monitor levels.
So I'm wondering if there's a way to turn it down...or run everything through a reaper session so I can take advantage of its auto-mute feature.
