An easy way to send CCs from Reaper

Hi,
My name is Ton, and I live in Amsterdam. I have been using Reaper for a while for simple multitrack recording. I am now looking into MIDI a bit more. I'm looking for an easy way to control an external MIDI device from Reaper, without using the MIDI Editor Window and placing events on tracks. Specifically:
I have an EHX 8 Step Program than I can program using MIDI CCs. What I would like to do is to create a screen with sliders and input boxes that I can use to send a set of CCs to the EHX. I have searched for 'creating MIDI control surface' but that seems to be more about external controllers than the other way around which is what I am trying to do.

I'm sure it's possible, I guess I just don't know where to start or what terms to search for. Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Have a look at ReaControlMIDI, that should do it. 12.34 in the User Guide
