Default Padre! this new "v4" API might interest you! ;)

+ API: added CountTCPFXParm, GetTCPFXParm functions (to access FX knobs the user has placed on the TCP)

I think it means you could have an additional "view" on the automap device for named assigned track fx parameters and since parameters save with fx chains could be a fast way of showing your favourite and most used parameters for not just one but ALL of the fx on that track.

Great work :-)

I've Just ordered a Novation Keyboard and will be testing it out with reaper.

EDIT:

Hey,

I've just got csurf plug-in up and running.

Works really well :-)

Thanks

I have the Novation Nocturn on order and waiting with interest to test Padre's plugin! I was actually already prepared to having to write a Reaper csurf extension myself for the Nocturn (after seeing the Reaper "support" on it is based on the limited HUI support that comes with Reaper) but then happily discovered Padre has already done the work.

I just sent my sl mkII back for exchange -- two of the drum pads were broke -- but the device sure is well made (accidents excluded).

What I'm curious is that there was also some trouble assigning my mod-stick... I'm wondering if it was a defect with that particular machine, this extension, reaper, or my own stupidity.

The problem was that it wouldn't 'catch' the control I was trying to assign it to in most cases. With certain controls (cc127 for some reason), it would catch, but it would only function in a restricted range (no matter what the max/min values were)...

Can someone illuminate or theorize about this?

Ok, so I just got the Nocturn. I may be a bit thick, but I dont't entirely understand Padre's extension. The manual seems to suggest there should be various things in addition to the default parameter assignments available for use with the controller. However, I only get these :

Is this correct, or am I looking in the wrong place?

edit: Oh damn...I now read the extension manual more carefully and it mentions most of the assignable things are available only for the Remote SL. Well, I guess there's going to be some csurf extension coding in the future for me then...

Seriously? No one has a MkII and can tell me if their mod wheel works???

Padre,

If it can help you sort out the "save as default control map"thing, I've found this in the online manual:

Default Mappings are saved to:

Mac: Mac HD/Users/<User>/Library/Application Support/Novation/Automap Universal/Mappings/<Automap Hardware Device>
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Local Settings\Application Data\Novation\Automap Universal\Mappings\<Automap Hardware Device>
Windows Vista: C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Novation\Automap Universal\Mappings\<Automap Hardware Device>

Cheers

For those interested in the pads... You might be ( more or less ) surprised to see this thread on Novation's forum. Feel free to contribute!

Hi Padre, just wanted to say thanks for developing this awesome plugin! Bought an SL mkii a couple of months ago but have only just installed the plug - works like a charm and has improved my work-flow no end.

Cheers!

Thank you for the software. The Nocturn runs everything in Reaper.
Wonder if the Reaper Transport functions can be mapped to Nocturn.

Anyone want to buy a Mackie Universal Control.

hi,
i'm waiting for a remote zero sl mkII;
i read on the first post that this extension works with automap 3.3x, with a bug with automap 3.4
does it work properly with automap 3.7?

however, great work!!! it's really good to see a community like the cocko's one

I decided to check this plug-in out because, while I could get Automap to work with plug-in controls ok through the provided Reaper options, I wasn't happy with the limited way it controlled Reaper's mixer and track controls.

I like the way I can now control volume, pans, solos, mutes, etc. with this plug, but is there a way to also be able to control plug-ins? Do I need to wrap the plug-ins as I would using the default Automap implementation?

Also, I can't figure out how to control any other Reaper parameters beyond the basic volume, pan, mute, solo functions (as well as the navigation controls). I would love to be able to control send pans.... Thanks.

PS: I have a Nocturn keyboard.

I think there's a manual somewhere for this extension but as for plugins best way is still the automap way but you can get to the track fx parameter knobs from the automap device too. The deeper control is on the up and down buttons in the top corners (well it is on the remote sl, not sure about other automap devices)

Can someone help me with the mixer parameters

Is it possible to make the 'Ffw/rw' change from 10 seconds to bars or measures instead?
Or at least make an encoder to this? atm I have 2 buttons set to go one measure forward and one back, pain in the butt pressing the buttons heaps of times.

Windows x64 and Reaper x64

Any other tips for setting up a workflow using the novation mkii as my primary mixer?

Default Mac OS X?

Any chance there is a Mac OS X version of the csurf somewhere? Not seeing one posted here.

I used to use the csurf plugin under Windows 7, and absolutely loved it (and very much appreciate the hard work involved to put something like this together). But I have since switched to Mac, and have been considering switching back to Reaper now that it's running smoother on Macs (been using Logic in the meantime)...but probably not an option for me if I can't use my primary control surface (Remote SLmkII 61). I know the HUI implementation is an option, but it's so clunky compared to implementation under Logic (or under Reaper w/ csurf, for that matter), I can't imagine taking such a big step backwards with the Novation, as much as I love Reaper.

TIA...

Has anyone had problems trying to save the mixer settings?

No matter what I do, if I restart Reaper I go back to the default mixer template of Automap.

I too can't save the template to come up again on startup - might have to manually open it?

Don't know if this has been mentioned - how do you make the grid knob on padre's favourite setting change properly? atm if the knob is faded to one side it changes that side only even on reverse rotation until it hits 12 o'clock

Anyone else finding Reaper taking ages to load the first time because automap is getting stuck trying to find devices (I have two automap devices)?

it had been fine till sometime in the late beta stage of reaper 4 then it started getting stuck for about a minute or two.

I'm using padre's version 90 mod.

Using latest c surf 90. One of the encoders (#8) doesn't work correctly. When using the mouse on the reaper gui the changes ( examples: volume, pan)register on the Nocturn 49 keyboard encoder via light display, however when the encoder is manually turned no changes take place on reaper gui. have latest firmware and updated to 3.7.4 automap. Anyone else having this problem?

Hey guys,
I just read through 8 pages of this thread looking for a direct link to Automap 3.3 - can anyone point me in the right direction? Novation only list downloads for the 2 latest versions.

Thanks in advance,
Dax.

Default Help

Hi, I'm trying to get my Novation Nocturn to work with Reaper. The traditional way to set it up with Reaper (the Novation way) and this plugin have both worked except for one aspect; Using the keys on the Nocturn is about half the volume of using the virtual keyboard in Reaper. Help?

Thank you very much!

Hey guys,
What Automap versions are you running with success?
Does anyone still have the link for v3.3 (which is the version recommended Padre)

Thanks in advance,

I've tried automap 4 beta and although it works for the most part, all the automatically assigned plugin controls (using Padre's favourite, bottom roll of knobs on my Zero SL) are no longer available with this version. This is sort of a deal breaker for me so I will stick with automap 3 until that gets sorted out.

Whether it will have to be sorted at novation's end or the csurf plugin remains to be seen!

Is it just me, or does it really suck that you can't get 14-bit control data out of Automap?

I mean, I have a Nocturn which has fantastically high resolution rotary encoders with software that allows you to multiply their resolution, yet the MIDI output is only 0-127, even if you set it for pitchbend.

I would like a high-resolution control to assign to REAPER's "Automate last touched control" function (which is a brilliant & easy to use feature), but alas...

I used to be on the Automap beta team, but I left because they never listened to anything I said. Felt like beating my head against a wall.

As for controller resolution, hopefully OSC support is coming soon (probably won't help with novation synths though!

Default A happy punter

I have just downloaded and installed csurf and I am most impressed.

Finally my novation nocturn is working with reaper in the way that I hoped it would when I bought it 3 years ago...........

Is there some way to reward you for your efforts?

Thanks again

Hello everybody! Just a quick message to let you know what I've been up to: work! Lot of work... and music, for a full year or so! I still have my RemoteSL, I'm still using it, I still have the source code for the Automap CSurf, and as soon as I get the time I will install the latest Automap driver/OS, update everything that requires an update, and think about new features by reading your messages. Take care!

Glad to you've been doing music!

The only big wish I have is to have the assigned track controls in reaper have their own page with auto updated names to reflect alias names from reaper!

Ok! I've tried a few things since last week-end...

GREAT news: I've tried all kinds of combinations to figure out Novation's increment/decrement encoders and momentary buttons implementation... and finally did! If you've tried my plugin with Automap 3.3+ versions (...as I told you not to ) such as 3.7.4 you may have noticed buggy endless encoders: this was because I was using a trick on standard pots that wasn't working anymore on newer versions.

Enough with the tech stuff... beta testers, could you please give this new version a try with Automap 3.7.4 (NOT 4.x !!!) and REAPER 4.13:

http://www.p-c-m.org/temp/reaper_csu...map_rev129.dll

(x86 only ATM)

@musicbynumbers: I've added CountTCPFXParm/GetTCPFXParm-related stuff No actual param values at this time though (e.g. "-60-+6B" instead of "0-127")

I will also try to take some time to read previous messages. Unfortunately I can't connect to this forum as often as I used too.
