Some addtional ideas how a good complete groove quantize feature should like like (imo):
1. We should be able to extract grooves from Midi and Audio (without having to split the Audio), via Groove markers

2. The extracted groove should not only be available as grid/quantize option in the Midi editor, but also the same way on the arrange page for those who are working with samples directly on the timeline.
(same with the swing grid btw. which is currently only available in the Midi editor)

Comments, further suggestions welcome...

if groove quantize comes out for reaper i doubt it will come with any grooves. and i doubt it will be able to read grooves of other proprietary formats. so really it will only be cutting your audio drums and using that as midi quantize pattern, which is actually a quite awesome feature if you play and record acoustic drums for a track, or for me, what i'd use it for, would be beatboxing.
by digi drums aren't accurate enough to use as a quantization template. but a groove quantize obtained fro midi data would be cool as well. and also a way to edit the groove.
this way i can take a cool piano lick for example, and then create a quantize pattern from it, and then modify that to fit for drums better or for soem other instrument.
you can do cool experimentation with stuff like this too.
it's a little bit cheating imo, but a good feature to have nonetheless.

Maybe this will be included in the next round of features?
I think the the crossfade experience was a little disheartening, seeing how something so comparatively simple seemed so hard and took so long to implement and is still kinda clunky.
I feel for you guys at cockos as it seems the initial impetus has been lost somewhat. Maybe some new blood and expertise might bring the fire back.
Anyway, you're doing great for such a small outfit, but I think there comes a point, where it becomes too big and complex for one or two coders to handle everything involved including researching, roadmapping , innovation etc.
So, once again, for your own sakes, bring in some help

Anyone else still interested in this for REAPER or has everyone given up and gone for solutions that already exist elsewhere?

For the love of god yes. I don't understand how this can be omitted, especially for a program so highly regarded for audio handling. Swing grid and extract groove from audio please!!!!!

Bump and +1. Just showing my interest for this feature. Would be VERY handy for those of us who can't afford godly studio drummers but still want cool sounding tracks.

I search for solutions in that direction every few weeks... Think about leaving reaper. I record real drums and some quantisation would be so cool, it's useless without swing & groove...

A nice and simple groove quantisation like all other DAWs have would be really nice.

I agree. Reaper is no ordinary DAW thank goodness, but this is an essential feature for all types of music. Even jazz musicians who incorporate sequencing into their musical paradigm need this. It is a creative tool as much as a corrective tool.

Bump!
I was surprised this one hasn't been implemented. Very important for MIDI Production. Cubase had user grooves over a decade ago. Reason - check, Ableton - check, FL Studio - check…..
……..
…………. Is there a solution for Reaper? possibly a midi plugin? Going to search the Cockos database.

Fingers Groove Tool (cool thing for groove quantize, regarding it's "only" a 3rd party add-on)
http://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.ph...rs_Groove_Tool
It's part of the free SWS extensions.

And welcome to Reaper forums

This is a must-have feature, IMO. One of the biggest reasons I still use Reason is because of the ReGroove templates. They are amazing to work with. Not only for corrective purposes as someone here mentioned, but for creative purposes. You can really get creative with the ReGroove mixer and put a great touch on your music.
I really hope Reaper adds something like this. Copy it from Reason if you have to, they have perfected it there.

still waiting....
the groove tool is a great initiative from fingers, but falls short of an integrated groove quantize as has been mentioned before.
Nothing from Cockos in the 5 prereleases so unlikely to be implemented any time soon.
A really strange omission
