Default Anyone nicked the Midas M32 OSC template for Reaper?

I finally ran a Midas M32 board for the first time. I have to say I was impressed by the OSC iPad control template! I've been happily living in 2009 with my remote desktop iPad connection and MIDI controllers. Tinkered with the OSC stuff once or twice and ended up not really following through. Kind of dismissed the touch controls for MIDI controllers in general but I still like to be able to see the computer screen on the iPad.

But alright, this got my attention! I don't think they had that special of a wifi booster either and I had zero lag issues. So the MIDI data must make for light back and forth over wifi. I was able to dial monitors on stage next to the players and roam while mixing which is my comfort zone. Didn't touch the board itself all night.

Anyone nicked this template and implemented it for Reaper yet? Perhaps with ReaEQ and ReaComp for the dedicated channel EQ and dyn?

Isn't that the same as for the Behringer X32?

I don't know. I understand the X32 to be the cost reduced version of the M32 but I'm not up on exactly what's watered down or left off the X32.

All I know is it kind of kicked my remote control's ass in a couple ways and I need to put some time into duplicating this!

Or maybe someone else already did?

Midas is part of the "Behringer group". Hence the M32 is a Behringer product.

AFAIK, the M32 uses greatly the same software and hardware as the X32.

The M32 uses selected parts for the preamps and hence might provide advantages in certain high end environments.

As the X32 is much more soled than the M32, it's more likely to find software related information when searching for "X32".

AFAIK the software is identical. Except for re-branding, of course. And the X32 is limited to 48 kHz, IIRC.

The hardware isn't. The motorised faders, fi are different. Some of the boards are too.

That sounds right. I think the 96k option might be a higher model? Moot point to me as long as it's 24 bit. 48k is the sweet spot for CPU vs low latency on the computer so I imagine it's the same with the integrated computer in the board. I'm thinking any live "issues" eclipse any noise bleeding through from a SD sample rate... but I digress.

If anyone has started an OSC template for Reaper based off the Midas/Behringer version that would be most welcome.

The experience with OSC so far...
On one side: Open these ports. Now draw simple crude circles and boxes on the iPad and assign them. Yeah... staying with remote desktop!
On the other, I've tried downloading a couple templates with WAY too much going on. Pages and pages of unintuitive screens and getting all fancy with meters and they all ended up being heavier on the wifi back and forth than freakin' remote desktop! (This includes the OSC template from MOTU for their Cuemix too. Running that with remote desktop was faster.)

Admittedly this was a couple years ago or so at this point.

This M32/X32 iPad connection was intuitive, fast, and clearly lo throughput for the wifi! It absolutely rocked! (Jazzed? Was a jazz gig.)

Have a look at what Patrick Gilles Maillot has done:

Oh boy, gonna need a lot more coffee in me before that webpage even comes into focus!

Looks like he's adding functionality to the X32 itself for most of that though. Is there something buried in there about putting that OSC template into your favorite DAW (ie Reaper)?

Start here:

https://sites.google.com/site/patric...#TOC-X32Reaper

BTW. I know the "Oh boy..." feeling. Back when we got our X32's there was very little around the net.

In the end, we decided to keep everything as much standard as possible, because the people who are using the X32's are not in-house. And training them on every customisation simply isn't possible.

The first sentence "The main idea is to use the X32 as a playback unit and a control surface to REAPER."

Does it get into adding the X32 style OSC control TO Reaper?

I'm not planning on ever using an X32/M32 with Reaper in any way. I want to add the style of OSC control I see the X32 using to Reaper. Purely mixing with Reaper. No X32 or M32 product involved in any way.

There's a pdf that explains all that in the download:

https://bf95dc13-a-62cb3a1a-s-sites..../X32Reaper.pdf

In that document, Patrick Gilles Maillot writes that it's based on Reaper's default osc file.

I feel like there is miscommunication here.

I don't have an M32 or X32, nor will I be getting one.

I want to have a similar OSC setup for an iPad as the M32/X32 uses, except for running Reaper. I do not wish to interface an M32 with Reaper in any way.

It DOES occur to me that I'm so green with this that I'm just not seeing it right in front of my face of course! So I'll try to dig through this document as well.

Perhaps Touchosc is what is needed to turn your iPad into a control surface see https://hexler.net/software/touchosc
Reaper's OSC capabilities are described here https://www.reaper.fm/sdk/osc/osc.php
A search will then find Touchosc advice and setups for Reaper
