Default Can't Install 5.971

Hi All,

I'm having an issue installing 5.971 (64bit)
It's a Windows 10 Pro system and I have installed Reaper updates many times without issue.
I am receiving a prompt (from the Installer not Windows) that the install need administrator access and prompts me to enter the administrator password which does not work.
As mentioned, I have had no issues running the reaper installs previously.
Some more info:
-UAC is turned off
-The account I am using has administrator privileges
-I have tried running "as administrator"
-I tried logging in as administrator and installing
-I have even tried to install in safe mode
-I verified I can create/delete folders and files in the Program Files directory

I am convinced it is an issue with the installer. I just always receive the error and can not move forward.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

Did you try deleting the update that's not working and downloading a new update file?
Kind of a long shot, but I've seen it work with other programs/drivers in the past.

The other question to ask is what, if anything, has changed on your system between now and the last time you were able to install Reaper updates?

I have downloaded the reaper update multiple times and still the same prompt for admin password. The only thing that could have changed was any windows updates but then I would assume others would be having the issue also.

That is strange.

First thing you might want to do is prepare for the possibility that you might have to uninstall Reaper then re-install it, just as a precaution. Export the config, backup your project and media files, that kind of stuff. I'm sure others here can tell you what you'd need to do to protect yourself from losing anything in the event you have to nuke the Reaper installation as a last resort.

It's interesting that you're getting the admin prompt from Reaper and not Windows. The user account you're using now is the same user account you have always used to install updates, is that correct?

Forgot to ask, have you done anything "non-standard" in your Windows install? Tweaked the registry, changed some system settings, that kind of stuff?

The one thing I haven't tried is an uninstall. Will try that tomorrow.
User account is the same it has been all along. I haven't done anything to tweak the system especially recently.

Good luck, make sure you save all your stuff.

One thing you might try before the uninstall is download the installer, run it, and see if it gives you the option to "repair" Reaper. Might give that a try first, you never know.

Another thing to try is making a portable install to a separate folder to check if the issue is the same there: http://lacinato.com/cm/blog/25-reaperportable

Default Solved (Sort of)

OK,
so I tried the following:
-uninstall ( no option to repair)
-Installing to a different directory
-Installing to a different drive
-Portable install presented the same message that the installer needs admin permission
-downloaded 5.972, same issue

What finally worked was I ran the install from a network share. It worked for both 5.971 and 5.972. Not sure why it worked but it did.
Thank you all for your help.

Wow, that's really strange, starting to sound like a Windows permissions issue.

Where was the update located on your computer when it didn't work? Was it in on your desktop, in your downloads folder, or somewhere else?

Yeah, that's the crazy part. I had tried it from multiple locations. C:\, My documents, C:\temp.... never thought to try it from a remote location.
For now 5.972 is installed. Lets see what happens moving forward.

Thanks everyone for your help!
