Default Lost context menu with right click on media item, now requires double right click

For some reason when I right click on a media item nothing happens now. If I double right click I get the context menu but I can't figure out why this is happening.

Moved my config folder and the right click was working again but I have looked through all the options I can find and looked over the toolbars and cannot see anything obvious.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Are you perhaps on macOS?
In case you're using the SWS Extensions, check if you already have the latest SWS update installed: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=202516

Just in case: did you rule out a hardware fault (like a faulty mouse button or connection)?

I'm running linux. I have the latest SWS available on landoleet.

It's definitely not hardware related, I can right click easily enough in other places but I just can't get the right click context menu on items.

I don't think it is linux related, I believe it is config issue. If I remove my preferences folder and start reaper (with SWS in the newly generated preferences folder) the right click works.

You can try the following:

0) If you haven't already, make a backup of your preferences folder, first, just in case

1) Make a second portable Reaper install (side by side to your existing one): http://lacinato.com/cm/blog/25-reaperportable
2) And then import your current config there by selecting & importing each of the config categories (on the left side) one after another.

Maybe this way you can narrow down to which of the config .ini files the problem might be related to (or after importing which config category the problem starts).

As a side note: I'm not sure exactly what might be causing the issue. Non of the Media Item related Mouse Modifiers have a Right-Click option - so I guess you can rule this out as well. But it might perhaps be related to an additional installed extension or script?...

I think that's where I hit a dead end, there didn't seem to be anything anywhere controlling/setting this.

I've found what was causing it, thank you for your suggestion of systematically searching for it. In reaper-mouse.ini there are extra lines with this:

[MM_CTX_ARRANGE_RMOUSE]
mm_0=4
mm_1=2
mm_2=1

[MM_CTX_MIDI_NOTE_CLK]
mm_0=1
mm_4=2

I have no idea what set that but hopefully it will stay with that emitted.

[MM_CTX_ARRANGE_RMOUSE] is for mouse-modifier-settings, in the arrange-view, when dragging with right mouse-button
[MM_CTX_MIDI_NOTE_CLK] if for notes in the MIDI Editor, when clicking on notes with left mouse button.

The mm stands for the keyboard-modifer, which is set to a specific action for this mouse-context.

mm_0 - default action
mm_1 - Shift
mm_2 - Ctrl
mm_4 - Alt

Behind that, it shows the action, that is set to the specific keyboard-modifier.

So the settings mean the following:

[MM_CTX_ARRANGE_RMOUSE] - Right mousebutton drag in the Arrange view:
mm_0=4 means "Select time"(right mouse-button-drag only)
mm_1=2 means "Marquee select items and time" (Ctrl+right mouse-button-drag)
mm_2=1 means "Marquee select items" (Shift+right mousebutton-drag)

[MM_CTX_MIDI_NOTE_CLK] - MIDI note - left click - in the MIDI-editor
mm_0=1 means "Select note" (simple left click on a note)
mm_4=2 means "Select note and move edit cursor"(alt+left click on a note)

Maybe that could help you figuring out, what happened and when.

That's really interesting and makes sense. I had set right click drag to select time so I will have to look in to that and revise how I was working.
